DineEquity Inc., the parent company of Lenexa-based Applebee's International Inc., reported that the casual dining chain's same-store sales for the second quarter were off 1.7 percent. For the first six months, same-store sales, or sales at locations open at least one year, were down 0.6 percent. Declines at Applebee's came on lower traffic mitigated by higher average checks.

IHOP restaurants will live on, but the company's corporate name is changing. The company that purchased the Lenexa-based Applebee's International restaurant chain last year is changing its name to DineEquity. The company will change its stock ticker to DIN on Monday.
