This is an innovative blend designed for easy and early drinking: 30% Shiraz, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Grenache and 20% Mataro (Mourvedre). The color is dark, but there is no indication from the color or smell that the wine has had very much, if any, new oak treatment. The aromas blend nicely--Shiraz black fruit and spice, Cabernet blackcurrants, Grenache strawberries and nice hints of purple flowers...

Don't laugh, at least not yet. There was a time when 7-11 coffee was looked down upon, but now, not so much. Let's not forget that McDonald's as well is making inroads into Starbucks' market share. So what's wrong with 7-11 wine? I guess we'll be finding out soon. 7-11 is about to start selling its own brand of wine. The company is calling it its first entry into the value wine category, and is releasing...

It was an absolutely beautiful day yesterday and since there was a sale on porterhouse steaks the grilling season continued. The steak was large enough for several folks with some left over for Scott. The wine was a Beaulieu Vineyards Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of the Napa Valley. Dark, mature red in the glass with a nose of dark cherries, cedar, cassis and a hint of chocolate. There...

http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2009/11/oh_thank_heavens_7-elevens_mak.php Good wine? Well, maybe - but the price is certainly right.... no word if it'll be in the slurpie machine. Dallas-based 7-Eleven's had a few proprietary wines on shelves for some time, among them Sonoma Crest and Thousand Oaks, but today comes word that the convenience store's actually in the private-label business...

Stags Leap District has long been perhaps my favorite Napa Valley subappellation for Cabernet. Made properly, Stags Leap Cabs tend to be more elegant than others from warmer parts of the valley. Stags Leap is in the southern part of the valley, so it gets cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean, allowing grapes to develop ripe flavors with less sugar (and thus less potential alcohol) than a few miles north....

It was another fantastic winemaker’s dinner at Bb33, the restaurant within the Delta Chelsea hotel in downtown Toronto, and executive chef Gino Guercio outdid himself once again (c lick here to see my previous Bb33 dinner I attended for Bodegas Norton ). The winery this time was the Chilean self described “boutique” Errazuriz, with guest speaker Michel Coutonlenc, regional director,...

Now you can pull off the road, pop into 7-Eleven and grab a chardonnay with stone fruit tones or a plum-like cabernet sauvignon, both of which pair perfectly with Go-Go Taquitos or a 1/4-pound Big Bite. 7-Eleven's new brand of house wines, Yosemite Roads, is cheaper than a 6-pack, too--$3.99 a bottle. The convenience store chain best known for Big Gulps and Slim Jims is following in the footsteps...

Two Buck Chuck better watch its back - it's about to face some stiff competition. On Tuesday, 7-Eleven announced its plans to release value wines in the United States and Japan. 7-Eleven will launch two proprietary California wines - a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon - to roughly 15,000 outlets under the Yosemite Road label. They will each retail for $3.99. The Chardonnay is described as having...

The Napa Valley vintners came to town on the afternoon of the 26th, 43 producers pouring many Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnays – the grapes that made Napa famous. I, for one, wanted to try something different than the usual; I guess I was in an ABC mood (Anything But Chardonnay / Cabernet), so I went on a one man crusade to locate anything other than ‘the usual’ … here’s...

There were several good dinners consumed in California and more than several wines. Pictured above are two wines we drank with an unusual braised pork dinner. On the right is the 2005 Helios Cabernet Franc from Corison winery while on the left was a completely new wine to me, a 2004 Cartuxa, Evora, Tinto Colheita from Portugal. The Helios was young and fresh with tart blueberries and some darker cherries...

In 1997, Plumpjack, a 10,000 case Napa winery producing ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon bottled half of its 1997 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon with screw caps. You might ask why they would so such a thing. According to PlumpJack, six to seven percent of all wines are corked and this is not a statistic that PlumpJack [or the wine industry in general] is willing to accept. Gordon Getty, founder of PlumpJack,
