Purple/red. Subdued nose (for this wine) hints at cracked pepper, eucalyptus, deep black fruit and savory meat/earth. Round, seamless with some textural sweetness. Nicely delineated through the mid-palate and finish, with real lift and nice acid backbone that certainly comes across as "natural". This bottle is more corpulent than any previous, but lacks the clarity and wild lift of others....
Ric says: This vid was shot at Tom Quayle's place after several nice glasses of Shiraz. I'm using Tom's Suhr standard, an amazing guitar! Thanks to Whitesnake. Hope you enjoy! A really cool time filmed by Tom "David Bailey" Quayle... Ric plays some cool licks at 2:35 and then check out George's gnarly speed licks at the end... more tea vicar? Rick Graham and George Marios - Friday night shred...
Stuff White People Like : Historically speaking, the music that white people have kept on life support for the longest period of time is Jazz. Thanks largely to public radio, bookstores, and coffee shops, Jazz has carved out a niche in white culture that is not yet ready to be replaced by Indie Rock. But the biggest role that Jazz plays in white culture is in the white fantasy of leisure. All white...
Around half an hour from Shiraz, is Persepolis. It was the capital of the Persian Empire from around 550 BC to 330 BC when Alexander the Great destroyed the place. Around 12 km before Persepolis is Naqsh-e Rustam, which has the tombs of four of the Achaemenid Kings. Two of the tombs are in this photo. [...]
On Sunday, we took an internal flight to Shiraz, which is in the South of Iran. Despite leaving home at 7 am, we missed the 8.30 am flight as traffic was jampacked, but they got us on a 9 am flight so no big deal. The flight down was with Iran Aseman Airlines. I try and [...]

Do you buy wine from your local supermarket? How much time do you spend deciding, how much do you usually spend, and are you usually satisfied with the chosen bottles? Living in a state where the local supermarket sells wine can present a real challenge. While supermarket wine may offer convenience, wading through the overwhelming selection of lousy and often overpriced options, on the other hand is...
As I mentioned in my last post, I got a selection of fine wines from three of my siblings, I have divided them up into three groups. Old World Whites (L-R) Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean 2005 - I've had a number of Montrachets over the years including a particularly fine one the day after my wedding, whose name escapes me, and have always enjoyed them. Again am looking forward to this....
South African wine lovers may have access to a large and diverse selection of wines thanks to an increase in production over the past few years, but reputable wine guides assisting consumers in making satisfactory choices are in shortsupply. The first edition of The People’s Guide , written by local wine experts Neil Pendock and Michael Olivier, heralds a new chapter in consumer friendly wine...
I have been over-quiet on this blog about the steady, unwelcome encroachment of political Islam (and I do not mean Muslim values) into public life, and left it to others such as Shiraz Maher, Maryam Namazie, Nick Cohen and David T, whose wages are opprobrium and inadequate support. Nevertheless, they are solid, and gaining form. Perhaps [...]
This is a very short post as I am about to examine the contents of a rather nice bottle of Shiraz. In June David Cameron reopened the Parliamentary Candidates’ List and invited applications from all walks of life. I pondered whether I should apply for a few weeks and then took the plunge. I was most impressed [...]
This is a cross-post by Shiraz Maher from the Focus on Islamism blog Inayat Bunglawala – more commonly known as Bungles – is a spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB). He’s been a busy boy recently. The MCB has taken a beating over the last two years after its sectarian and Islamist politics were exposed, prompting [...]
Choosing wines for Thanksgiving can be quite a chore. With so many flavors of so many foods it is often hard to choose the perfect wine. We like to make things easy for our patrons so we’ve chosen a few Lynfred wines that will be perfect for your traditional turkey dinner. With the many different flavors of Thanksgiving dinner we suggest an off-dry white wine such as Gewurztraminer , Riesling...
South Australia. Cabernet sauvignon (54%), Shiraz (46%). Screwcap. Approx $A25. Seductive at first, with spice, dark chocolate and blackberries. Lush, sweet and creamy, like a wet kiss, this is rounded and plump with seemingly no hardness. Later on, reality and oxygen play their part and the nose takes on a herbaceous and varnish like edge, while in the mouth it seems less integrated, with more ink...
Another cracking wine from Mount Majura, this time a blend of Tempranillo (56%) Shiraz (31%) Graciano (13%) aged in older wood. I haven't seen a lot of Graciano aorund, I'd be interested in seeing what else is being done with this variety here. These kind of blends are really showing potential in Australia, and the resulting show a bit of Spain, a bit of France, but show through very much as Australian....
