This Friday, I tasted every batch of Chateau La Dominique 2009 after fermentation and before the malolactic begins. Well, it's very good. Each tank, each batch is done to make a great wine, and not much second wine. As already predicted, it will be at least the level of 1989 which was and is one of the great successes of the chateau. The fact that it is good is not a surprise, what is, is that all...

While traveling in France, one name came up repeatedly: Robert Parker. I haven't figured out if the French love him for bringing fame and fortune to their world of wine, or hate him for causing French wine to be crafted to fit his palate. One thing is for sure, Parker is the root cause behind too much wood in wine. By that, I mean that Parker's desire for new oak fueled the "overoaked" wine...

Even as Chateau Lafite leads a surge for Bordeaux vintners in Asia, US retail prices for the same wines have skidded below wholesale cost as a major importer dumps stocks worth tens of millions of dollars. US importer Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines (DC&E), a subsidiary of the British drinks giant Diageo, has abandoned Bordeaux wine after 35 years, aggressively liquidating its warehouse stock...

“Madiran in South-West France is a simple countryside area as opposed to surrounding wine departments, often characterized by chateau´s and castles. The client wished to transmit this rustic atmosphere. The idea was to transmit an unpretentious “every day feeling” and to open a window to the smells, sounds and impressions of a simple life in [...]

At $13, this Bordeaux from the fabled vintage was a must buy. It has a ruby hue with chocolate and big berry aromas with deep spice and pine. Palate--Wow--what a disappointment; watery, steely bread with little or no fruit and quick finish which in this case is a blessing. This wine began superbly with a wonderful bouquet but gave up the ghost in the aromas. Pass it up. --A Review from The Wine Cask...

If you are investing in wine then Provenance i s essential. Provenance, from the French provenir , "to come from", refers to the history of your wine: where, when and by whom it was made, where it has been stored, who has owned it and where it has been shipped to. It is in effect your wine's pedigree and acts as a certification of care. Without Provenance you may find that your wine is worthless...

Now you can pull off the road, pop into 7-Eleven and grab a chardonnay with stone fruit tones or a plum-like cabernet sauvignon, both of which pair perfectly with Go-Go Taquitos or a 1/4-pound Big Bite. 7-Eleven's new brand of house wines, Yosemite Roads, is cheaper than a 6-pack, too--$3.99 a bottle. The convenience store chain best known for Big Gulps and Slim Jims is following in the footsteps...

Our local NBC affiliate has a good piece on the biodynamic wine process, specifically Montemaggiore (which makes a great Syrah). In Virginia, Chateau O'Brien produces all of their wines biodynamically, and they make some excellent red blends.

I can count my experiences w/ this estate on one hand (save for multiple samplings of the great ’99 vintage), so I drew upon a familiar M.O., vertical immersion, to get the ball rolling with Chateau Palmer. Perhaps one of the reasons that I haven’t given Palmer much play has been due to its price. Well, that and its siren of a neighbor, Chateau Margaux’s sea-sized shadow, trimming...

I spotted a story in the wine press recently that I just had to voice an opinion on – according to Scientists who met in Portland for the annual Geological Society of America Conference the belief that minerals could influence the flavour of wine is flawed. They consider that the quantity of minerals in wine is so small that it can't be detected through human taste and smell. This seems ludicrous....

Yesterday, I went to a preview lunch of a new series of Wine Dinners organised by the Regent Hotel. These will be held once a month starting on Thursday November 12th, and will be hosted by different chateaux around the region. Happily for me, the first one is going to be a 'Diner d'Exception avec Chateau Palmer', and Thomas Duroux (director of the chateau) was there to talk us through the fascinating...
