This Syrah from Mastronardi Estate Winery has a bright bouquet of sweet tobacco with hints of green pepper. Rich flavours of ripe berries, graced with well structured tannins, are delightful on the palate. This wine is a great match with ripe cheeses, grilled earthy vegetables and grilled chicken or pork. Nobody really knows why Syrah/Shiraz has two [...] Related posts: 30 Days of Local Wine –...

Continued from the article Tasting Leelanau . We started our final day of Tasting Leelanau with a visit to a relatively new producer, Circa Estate Winery, owned and operated by Margaret and David Bell. We were immediately struck by the fact that everything about this operation is first class and with a very distinct style. In the accompanying [...]

This year’s Taste the Season event in Niagara-on-the-Lake was like all the others: each winery puts forth a food and wine pairing for passport holders; its’a winning formula that has been working for years, so why screw with it. Taste the Season is by far my favourite event, matched only by the Wine & Herb Festival and, the more recently introduced, Days of Wine & Chocolate, also...

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 93 CELLAR SELECTIONContinues Chalk Hills great track record of 90-plus Cabs, although this may be the most ageworthy in recent memory. You dont want to pop the cork until at least 2011, because the tannins put it into lockdown mode. But theres a great, deep heart of black currants longing to blossom. The wine boasts perfumed aromas of black currants, blackberry jam, with...

While I was in Bordeaux, I was surprised to hear so much about the Chinese. No, we weren't discussing wontons and eggrolls although, oddly enough, the Chinese food in Bordeaux is about three grades below boric acid in terms of food quality and taste. Instead, we were discussing the market for Bordeaux wine. Believe it or not, the Chinese have actually been buying up more Bordeaux wine than any other...

Hong Kong is one of the fastest growing markets for high end wine. While I was in Bordeaux I heard quite a few stories about the recent influx of tourists from China and Hong Kong and some of the Chateaux are no offering their websites in French, English and Chinese. So, it would make sense to open a winery in Hong Kong. The 8th Estate Winery is an urban winery, and the first one in Hong Kong.

Sneaked in a phoner last Wednesday with the lovely and talented winemaker of Hauser Estate Winery , one of Pennsylvania's start-ups this year. It's a winery with as much upside as the hill it sits on, offering a stunning view of the surrounding countryside that stretches almost to the Civil War battlefield. Michelle Oakes was looking forward to maybe her first day off in three weeks this past Saturday....

In vino veritas There was no shortage of small talk among guests at celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck's celebration Monday night of the second anniversary of his D.C. restaurant, the Source. He rang in the popular establishment's third year with a wine dinner in honor of Robert Mondavi, the legendary American winemaker. Perhaps it was the wine talking, as the collective sound of merriment during the pre-dinner...

We know, we know, Temecula is not as exciting a wine destination as some of California's other regions, but sometimes Angelenos don't have the time to zip all the way up to the Russian River Valley for dinner. For just a quick overnight stay, Temecula can be just the right distance, especially when the Temecula Creek Inn is hosting an Artisan Wine Dinner with Boorman Vineyards Estate Winery. Dare...

Chardonnay comes in many different styles. Some are light and elegant, other soft and round. There are bold Chardonnays full with striking, ripe flavors and spicy Chardonnays that are just perfect for these early fall days. I've been tasting a lot of Chardonnays lately, and here are some of my favorites from the new releases. No matter which kind of Chardonnay you prefer, I think you'll find one here...

The main attraction consists of hundreds of wineries and scores...
