Supple and generous, with a black pepper note running through the black cherry, blackberry and nutmeg flavors, turning toasty as the finish lingers effortlessly. Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache. Best from 2009 through 2016. 5,000 cases imported.

A stony and minerally rosé, with taut cherry and floral notes that linger on the long, lacy finish. Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Drink now. 6,500 cases imported.

This is a different expression of Old Vine (it’s made from grapes grown on vines planted in the early 1960s) Barossa Valley grenache. It’s matured in old French oak for 20 months and is bottled unfiltered, with a make of 150 dozen. What makes it different is that it’s light-footed and spritely, with a curve [...]

2004 Domaine Faurmarie Grès de Montpellier L'Ecrit Vin $16, my rating- good/very good Mourvedre-Syrah-Grenache blend from the Coteaux du Languedoc. Very intricate; predominate meat/beefiness, herbals, dark ripe plum. Interestingly the "salty tang" , mentioned in the review below, reminded me of the after taste of seawater (I surf & love the ocean so that's a good thing). 90 Points - David Schildknecht...

Tasting notes: Big aromas of raspberry jam and custard on the nose Rich and mouth-filling on the palate Smooth finish loaded with crushed berries and surprising nuances of tea, cocoa, and earth Australian red wine might be dominated by Shiraz, but don't miss the exciting Grenache. This wine has the big fruit you'd expect from an Australian red, but it also has some surprising layers that round out...

There may be several bottlings of Stickleback 2006 out there, or at least, I've seen different compositions quoted for this vintage. This bottle reads, "51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Shiraz, 10% Grenache". Stickleback has a lot of personality, and may not appeal to everyone equally. It's rather on the dark and...

When I was putting the ‘Why the French Hate Us’ book together one of my favourite parts was the section on Drew Noon of McLaren Vale’s Noon winery. I’ve just lifted this chapter of the book and placed it here. I’ve only met Drew once but ever since I’ve always looked forward to tasting and [...]

Apparently it’s a blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Grenache. I’m telling you this because it’s important to Australians. We bloody well like to know what we’re drinking. Importer is www.cesoirwine.com You need to be logged in to see this part of the post

The 2006 vintage may have been a bit of a howler in WA for most reds but this is no dog. In fact, I keep going back to put my nose in the bowl. It’s a very tasty wine made from 63% Shiraz, 23% Grenache, 7% Mataro and 7% Zinfandel. You need to [...]

The other day I popped open three 2005 Shiraz from the Yarra Valley and it occurred to me that they grow just about everything down there other than Grenache and Mataro. You need to be logged in to see this part of the post

There’s nothing quite like a glass of port with some really good cheese - especially blue cheese. Except, of course, a really good glass of red wine. To hand, I had Lindemans Shiraz Grenache blend, from 2006. It’s made in Sydney Cove, Australia and is a healthy 13.5%. The best way I can find to [...]

I liked last year’s release of this and was looking forward to this. It’s a blend of 58% shiraz with the rest grenache. It was aged in French oak puncheons for 18 months. Interestingly, the two varieties were co-fermented. The question here as with last year is: is it work the hefty price? You need to [...]

Righto. I have to come clean here. Tonight I was tasting a raft of ( and some much more expensive) cool climate Shiraz and I just really wasn’t in the mood for any of them. This hit the spot though. It’s a blend of Angaston Grenache (52%), Nuriootpa Mataro (28%) and Greenock/Angaston Shiraz 20% from [...]

This has me stumped. It’s from the horribly cold 2006 Margaret River vintage and yet it’s rich and warm and bold. It’s made from the carnelian grape, which is a result of Harold Olmo’s experiments in crossing cabernet sauvignon, carignan and grenache. A ‘field blend’ in the one grape.
