Lions owner William Clay Ford said today he wants general manager Martin Mayhew and chief operating officer Tom Lewand to remain in the organization and help him hire another front-office executive, according to a report on mlive.com.

The last time Michigan State played at Ford Field in December 2003, Tom Jernstedt and Greg Shaheen purposely visited the worst seats. Detroit had already secured the 2009 NCAA Final Four five months earlier under a traditional court configuration, so the NCAA vice presidents wanted to get a feel for the building during a game.

The Spartans have known for a year that they would have one guaranteed trip to Ford Field during this season and that they would play one of the top teams in the nation there. They hope there will be a return visit to Detroit in a few months -- with the possibility of a rematch.

North Carolina has now won each of its eight games by at least 15 points, and absolutely crushed Michigan State at Ford Field last night, 98-63, giving the Heels one more win in that venue than the Lions this year.
