The more one digs into Tuesday’s election results, the worse they look for Democrats. Let’s start by reviewing once again the three high profile races: New York’s 23 rd Congressional District special election, and the gubernatorial in New Jersey and Virginia. The Democrats have to know that NY-23 was a fluke – they can’t count on gross Republican miscalculation in 2010....

Between the two imploding campaigns, it really is hard to tell which campaign qualifies as the worst of the cycle. Creigh Deeds (D-VA) Deeds emerged from a contested three-way primary after his two opponents -- Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran -- nuked each other dead. One would assume that his candidacy for the office meant he wanted to run for governor, but his general election campaign has seriously...

An e-mail: Kathryn, I live in Southwest Virginia near the Tennessee border and I have to say that much of the current Democratic candidate’s problem is people like Terry McAuliffe. To them, Virginia is only a state as far as the D.C. suburbs extend. All of those “other people” who make up the other 60-70% of the state aren’t important. The hubris and arrogance of the D.C. elite...

Not a pretty Dem scene in Virginia (via J-Mart & Andy Barr): Clinton highlighted at length the polls that show Deeds trailing by 8 to 9 points in his race against Republican Bob McDonnell in the Old Dominion. So did Clinton’s friend, Terry McAuliffe , the former Democratic National Committee chairman who lost the gubernatorial nomination to Deeds in a primary in June. Their point, of course,...
