We've recently discovered several other elections map mashups on the web that are just as interesting and we couldn't...
In the end though, it proves to be about as conclusive as the Iowa caucus was for the Democratic Primary. The huge loser from this poll is Bob McDonnell, who should have a substantial lead at this point because of his statewide lead in name ID as sitting Attorney General. The fact that he's leading by only 5-6 points against 2 Democrats who really have only marginal statewide name ID at this point...
"I'm in it for the long run. It's not a very long run. It will be over by February 5." -- Sen. Clinton, before Iowa caucus. Photo: AP Covering a campaign is more like covering a sports team than either sort of reporter cares to admit. The same performance that's labeled "gutsy" after a win becomes "inadequate" after a loss. While Hillary Rodham Clinton managed more primary votes than any winning candidate...
ABC NEWS' Z. BYRON WOLF WRITES FROM THE SENATE Sen. Joe Biden, D-Delaware, has not been in the Presidential race since just after the Iowa Caucus, where he finished 5th with 4 percent of the vote. While he hasn't been...
So this is how it ends. I began helping Eli Sanders cover the presidential election about two months before the Iowa caucusback when Bidens and Dodds still roamed the Earth. My job was to keep a close eye on the no-chance candidates, to act convinced that by some ugly stroke of luck the country would reject making history and instead put their bet on the competent shoulders and ridiculous hairdo...
Last night, Dan and I were interviewed about the My Fellow Americans book on Rhod Sharp’s ‘Up All Night‘ on BBC Five Live. The evening saw Obama secure his nomination as the democratic Presidential candidate, and also marked six months since the Iowa caucus, the first major event on the primary calendar. The interview went well [...]
To me, this sounds a note that harkens back to the failed "inevitability" strategy back in the heady Iowa caucus days: "This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight," Clinton said to thunderous applause. Here's the thing. It's not Senator Clinton's decision to make. The voters made a decision. They picked they other candidate. In truth, Clinton's decision in 2002 to
A snowy night in Iowa. That is when it began. When a First Term Senator from the State of Illinois shocked America by winning, convincingly, the Iowa Caucus. I spent the night fielding calls from friends and family. Short calls that didn't amount to much more than " HE WON.......I'll call you back!" As an African-American, even though I had been donating money, volunteering, even going to Iowa to...
So, what do you say? We’ve been telling you it’s over since Wisconsin. We knew it was over when Hillary lost the Iowa Caucus. So what have we gained from this disgrace of a Democratic Primary? Anything? No doubt something good, but it’s not all good. Or is it? Let’s see…. By virtue of Barack Obama’s victory over Hillary Clinton , America has been given a new lease on life. The agents of Oligarchy have...
On Wednesday at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, John Edwards endorsed former rival Sen. Barack Obama. Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina and 2004 vice presidential nominee, finished second to Obama in the Iowa caucus before dropping out in late January. Keep reading to view the video..
Image via Wikipedia From U.S. News & World Report: Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and defeated contender for the GOP presidential nomination, is currently at the top of John McCain's short list for a running mate. At least that's the word from a top McCain fundraiser and longtime Republican moneyman [...]
The New Republic has a piece today that reveals just what kind of damage has been done to Obama in the primary: Ideology : In the Iowa Caucus, Obama defeated Clinton among "moderate" voters by 33 to 31 percent and barely lost "conservatives" by 22 to 21 percent. He was perceived as a middle-of-the-road candidate or, even better, as standing above ideology. But he increasingly is seen as the "liberal"...
Do you get a a sense that if the Iowa Caucus was run again on Tuesday along with North Carolina and Indiana that the result might be quite a bit different? Americans do have a passion for drama and support for the underdog. How much of that passion was at play in the early [...]
FROM: OPINIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE Iowa Caucus Organizers Admit They Just Make Results Up Dane Goodman, official overseer of the Iowa caucuses, admitted today that no one really understands how the Iowa caucuses are supposed to be conducted, and that every four years, he and two other state officials just "make up some results." Goodman explained the procedure that the caucuses were supposed to employ....
