John McCain's campaign is truly becoming a parody of itself ...I once thought McCain was the best the Republicans had to offer, and maybe that is still true, but I think even Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney might've had more tact and responsibility than McCain and his campaign full of children.

As usual a pretty smart analysis. Bottom line is: not Romney. Would Romney help McCain? I don’t see how. Social conservatives and evangelicals cannot but smart over his former earnest declarations of his determination to “protect a woman’s right to choose” and his famous statement during a campaign debate that he would be a better senator [...]

John Fund had a great piece over the weekend on the disturbing tendency of politicians using earmarks to name things after themselves. (I've complained about this before.) I was especially very pleased to read that Fred Thompson asked Tennessee legislators not to name a highway after him. I'd say we need to shame the rest of these people into changing their behavior, but shamelessness is regrettably...

It was Iowa — better said, a lot of Iowa Republican primary voters — who propelled Mike Huckabee into prominence and punctured Mitt Romney’s tires. The latest news about the Iowa GOP is that they’ve denied their senior senator, Charles Grassley, a voting seat among its delegation the to the Republican National Convention. Is there [...]

Say what you want about Bob Novak, but the guy's as old as the hills and is as connected as anyone in Washington --so I believe this. As to who McCain's VP choice will be? The smart money's on Mitt Romney, however it could also be Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, Mike Huckabee, or even Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal. Or, of course, someone else.
