[via Treehugger and EarthFirst.] Riding bikes; a “wacky idea”. In honor of Rep. House passes bailout bill; bike commuters (finally) get a tax break

What a long, strange trip it’s been for Congressman Earl Blumenauer and his Bike Commuter Act. Thank You Local Representatives

"Oregon's Democratic Representatives Earl Blumenauer (3rd District), David Wu (1st District) and Peter DeFazio (4th District) opposed the plan in Monday's floor vote... "It was, at the core, not the best bill," Blumenauer said in a prepared statement. "I am convinced that it would have passed if it were paid for with a fee on the finance industry to pay for its own bailout, and if homeowners were given...

Supreme Court decision, anyone?

Boy, was it a bizarre day. The news of the failed bailout vote had me thinking of stockpiling canned goods and starting an indoor garden. While I've always had faith in Peter DeFazio and Earl Blumenauer, I have just enough economic knowledge to be truly scared but not enough to see a viable way out of this mess. For now, we all have to sit tight until Thursday, when most lawmakers will return from...

Ready, aim ...

By David Roberts As Kate reported in June , there's a new climate bill in the mix in Congress, a fairly ambitious bill from Reps.
