I really don’t care that Earl Pomeroy failed to increase subsidies for things like wind energy given that I don’t think any energy source that can’t exist without subsidies is the answer to our energy needs, but I do care that Pomeroy so willingly voted against the oil industry that has been so instrumental in making North Dakota’s economy roar to life even as the economy in the rest of the state slows...

Republican challenger for Rep. Earl Pomeroy’s House seat Duane Sand got in a plane crash a few weeks back. Scary episode, to be sure, but Sand emerged from it without a scratch. Sand himself blamed an iced up carburetor for the crash, but the Fargo Forum points out that this is something less than the truth : In an interview with WDAY, Sand said cold and moist weather conditions most likely caused...

You know that big-money, $2,500/person fund raising event for incumbent Representative Earl Pomeroy which is to be held at a posh resort in Pennsylvania? Turns out it’s being held on the same date as the 125th anniversary celebration of his hometown’s founding (Earl is from Valley City, North Dakota). Earl was supposed to attend that event, and even act as Grand Marshall in the town’s parade, but he...

As fellow North Dakota Democrat Kent Conrad faces questions about why he took a cushy “VIP loan” from a disgraced mortgage company executive to purchase a home he never reported on public disclosure forms, at-large Representative Earl Pomeroy readies himself for a $2,500/person fund raiser at a posh Pennsylvania resort: BISMARCK — U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., is hosting a $2,500-per-head campaign...

And for you North Dakota readers, our Representative Earl Pomeroy voted against it as well . House Republicans pushed the No More Excuses Energy Act to the floor through a discharge petition. The Act would have eliminated barriers to building new refineries in the United States along with instituting other measures to generally make it easier to produce gasoline domestically. Democrats voted it down...

Rep. Earl Pomeroy, who is facing a challenge from Republican Duane Sand this campaign season, is found of telling North Dakotans how much clout he has in Washington DC. His campaign website says, “As the only member of the House of Representatives with both a seat on the Ways and Means Committee and Agriculture Committee, Earl is in a strong position to put North Dakota producers.” During past campaigns...

This weekend Rep. Earl Pomeroy’s opponent Duane Sand was given the unanimous, albeit unchallenged, nomination of his party. Before Sand even received that nomination he was attacked by the North Dakota media (ironically given where Earl Pomeroy and state Democrats get most of their money) for being associated with out of state political interests. So clearly, the state media is pretty interested in...

Is it customary for newspaper editors to use their editorial pages to carry out personal vendettas against political candidates? Apparently it's customary for Fargo Forum opinion editor Jack Zaleski who, fresh off branding state tax activist and soon-to-be Republican House candidate Duane Sand as a “fringe” out-of-stater, has a nother condescending piece suggesting that Sand isn't credible, respected...

About a week or so ago a rumor drifted into Say Anything headquarters about North Dakota State House Majority Leader Rick Berg possibly taking a shot at running against US Representative Earl Pomeroy. I was told that he was seriously considering it then, but can now say definitively that Berg will not be running. Which is too bad. I think he would have made a great candidate.

The legislation, H.R. 5450, would update the tax treatment of cell phones and Blackberries used for business...
