Maryland District 7 Gerrymandering at its worst After the 2000 census, the district was drastically extended by the Democrat dominated legislature. With the population of Baltimore City drastically declining, the 7th district was extended. The new district cut into Roscoe Bartlett’s territory of North Howard County as well as the liberal portion of the county represented by Ben Cardin. This resulted...

When I interviewed him last week on Midday, I had a sense that Roscoe Bartlett, the Western Maryland Republican, would vote against the Bush administration bailout plan. Here's his full statement on yesterday's vote: “As I said last week, you can’t privatize profits and socialize losses. You can’t reward bad behavior. Protecting the assets of individuals and businesses and our community banks who...

Jim Marshall, after spending his summer recess getting an earful from the folks back home, has teamed up with Republican Roscoe Bartlett of MD to endorse a drilling plan. From The AJC: Virtually all general drilling bans should be lifted. We should permit drilling offshore and in the ANWR and require that it be done with appropriate [...]

Spokeswoman Lisa Wright says the 6th District Republican paid any required corporate gain taxes on the sales. But Wright says Bartlett won’t release his tax returns because he isn’t legally required to. The Frederick News-Post reported earlier this week that property records indicate Bartlett underreported or failed to report on his federally mandated disclosure forms roughly $1 million in property...

Behold, a miracle: Public anger over $4 gas is forcing at least some of our political class to confront their energy contradictions. Last week, Republicans Jim Walsh of New York and Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland -- two longstanding opponents of offshore drilling -- asked for a mulligan. We can now add John McCain to the roll: In a speech in Houston yesterday, the Senator finally came out in favor of...

Rep. Roscoe Bartlett loves talking about energy conservation, but there's one audience he hasn't been able to reach: thousands of tourists who drive through his western Maryland district to visit the nation's capital.

Rep. Bartlett(R-MD) fully understands the problems facing us, and our children's children as the oil runs over its Production Peak. He does NOT deny Global Warming-- much the opposite, and he is NOT a fan of ethanol as a fix. He doesn't believe that there is a "Market fix" to the problem, and he doesn't offer any sort of typical Republican talking points BS about the nature of our oil/energy problem....

There aren't that many scientists in Congress. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett [R-MD-6] is one. I know him best as the senior Republican in the House Armed Services Seapower and Expeditionary Forces (read: Navy and Marines) subcommittee. One of the other areas he's focused on, however, is energy policy. Rep. Bartlett has argued for the "Peak Oil" theory for some time now. Boiled down to its barest essentials,...

Organized labor picked the wrong horse in the Democratic Primary in the Sixth Congressional District, where former Frederick Mayor Jennifer Dougherty was the voters' choice yesterday to try to unseat veteran Republican U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett this fall. Dougherty says she hopes to bring in a broad swath of Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters to help her now that she's the Demoratic nominee....
