Pork You Can Believe In

Conservative sources are suddenly abuzz with the story of "phantom" congressional districts in the Recovery.gov website that tracks where the 2009 stimulus money (more properly known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) goes. Embarrassingly, the website lists way too many congressional districts. Virginia, for instance, supposedly has a 36th, 26th and 79th districts. Those entries...

U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Newport News, and Organizing for America have scheduled a news conference for 6 p.m. today to give OFA a chance to publicly thank Scott for voting for the health care reform bill that passed last Saturday. Passing along the official gratitude will be Brandyn Keating, OFA's state director for Virginia. The event is at 6 p.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 2515 Marshall...

Nye voted no on healthcare

The emails from Saturday night’s votes are flowing into my inbox. Most of them are congratulatory ones – for Congressman Bobby Scott (D-3rd), Congressman Tom Perriello (D-5th), Congressman Jim Moran (D-8th) and Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) – thanking them for their support of healthcare reform. Some of them are critical of my representative, Congressman Glenn Nye [...]

VA Dems Scott, Moran, Perriello, Connolly voted "yes" on health care bill

All Republican Congressmen in Virginia voted against the health care monstrosity along with Democrats Rick Boucher and Glenn Nye. Virginia Democrats who voted for it were Bobby Scott, James Moran, Tom Perriello, and Gerald Connolly. For those who would like to register their disappointment with Reps. Scott, Moran, Perriello, and Connolly, here is contact information for them: Gerry Connolly Washington,...

"Healthcare Bill" Passes the House

See the list here . Of the Virginia delegation all the GOPers voted against with Glenn Nye and Rick Boucher joining them. While the Yes votes from Connolly, Moran & Bobby Scott did not surprise me; the Yes vote from Tom Perriello does. I think we can mark this down as his political demise tonight.

A challenger for Bobby Scott?

First the news, or at least the possibility of news, because the attribution is going to take a while: Coby Dillard, who worked on Bob McDonnell's gubernatorial campaign as the outreach person for veterans and African-Americans, may decide to challenge U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Newport News, next year. Dillard has a blog, The Dillard Doctrine, where he says he's not going to say anything about whether...

Potential challenger for Bobby Scott

The Virginian-Pilot political blog posted a blurb yesterday about a potential challenger for Congressman Bobby Scott (D-3rd). Seems the original tip came from United Conservatives that Coby Dillard, who worked on the McDonnell for Governor campaign as Deputy Coalition Director (Veterans/African Americans), is considering a run. Dillard runs a blog called The Dillard Doctrine and, [...]

"Effective Death Penalty Apeals Bill" Introduced in House

Recognizing the difficulty that death row inmates have in bringing innocence claims before the court, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) has introduced H.R. 3986, "The Effective Death Penalty Appeals Act." (Received by e-mail from Amnesty International USA , no link yet:) When a person facing execution has strong evidence of his innocence, he should have ample opportunity to bring those claims back...

This blog is proud to be the first to announce that we have a candidate to challenge Bobby Scott for the 3rd Congressional District in Virginia. Coby Dillard is forming an exploratory committee. He will be on BlogTalkRadio on 13 November talking about hs plans. Some of you will recognize the name. He has been an active participant in...

Virginia's Bob McDonnell and NJ's Christie

It seems that the Republicans won the governorships of both Virginia and New Jersey. On NJ, I'm not too sure yet because there must be a trunk full of uncounted ballots - about 150,000 of them that will mysteriously be found tomorrow by some poll worker who - whoops - misplaced them in a 50 gallon drum. So, Christie is not the governor of NJ until he is sworn into the office. My opinion... In Virginia,...

If a Virginia Democrats' forecast of low turnout holds true, Tuesday could be a difficult day for Creigh Deeds and his fellow Democrats. RICHMOND, Virginia (CNN) - Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Virginia, acknowledged Monday a lack of enthusiasm among Virginia Democrats in this year's gubernatorial race, and predicted that turnout at the polls tomorrow will be low. If [...]

President Obama and Governor Tim Kaine brought together thousands of enthusiastic followers at a rally for Senator Creigh Deeds that also featured the entire Democratic statewide ticket and some welcome additional fire from Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA-03).
