Most of the political class is focused on three races today: gubernatorial contests in Virginia and New Jersey and the Congressional race in New York's 23rd District. But across the country voters are casting ballots for state and local races that could have greater implications for next year's mid-term elections. One example is the special election in Michigan's 19th State Senate District where Republican...

With today's announcement by Dede Scozzafava, the GOP approved candidate in NY-23, that she was endorsing the Democrat, conservative concerns about her were certainly validated. And this isn't the first moderate-to-liberal GOP candidate to get knocked off by a conservative and then turn on their party. Erick Erickson has the details : We hear this all time — conservatives in the GOP have to play...

Tuesday is the first semi-major election day since Mr. Obama and his people took over Washington. There are no federal races outside of the special election in New York's 23rd district, however, so other dynamics besides the federal issues do matter. The biggest ones to watch are Virginia and New Jersey. Their state elections are Tuesday. Virginia usually shifts opposite of the white house in its state...

From CQ Politics Attorney Brian Rooney is filing the paperwork Friday to join the 2010 race for Michigan's 7th Congressional District...
