PHILADELPHIA | With Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis sidelined long-term, the Washington Redskins needed their second-year pass-catchers to produce like high draft choices. On Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field against the Philadelphia Eagles, Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly did just that. The Redskins blew an eight-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 27-24, but Thomas, Davis and Kelly combined...

(By David Scott, dscott@charlotteobserver.com) This has not been a good month to be a Carolina Panthers linebacker. Season-ending injuries to Thomas Davis and backup Landon Johnson have put a strain on the depth - and now strongside starter Na'il Diggs might miss Sunday's game against the Jets with injured ribs.

The Carolina Panthers have lost another linebacker to a season-ending knee injury. The team placed Landon Johnson on injured reserve Tuesday and signed linebacker Jordan Senn . Johnson hurt his medial collateral ligament in Thursday's loss to Miami in his second start at weakside linebacker after Thomas Davis was lost for the season. Johnson's injury leaves James Anderson as the likely starter Sunday...

Below my first post on Cat Scratch Reader , D-Ranged1 laid down the first comment, and it went a 'lil sumthin' like this... "Here’s to hoping we complete the rest of the season injury-free and come back next year on track." Yeah, injuries have plagued us all season. No matter how much we hate them, they're still a part of the game. And when they do knock us down, we gotta deal with...

(By Tom Sorensen, tsorensen@charlotteobserver.com) Thomas Davis might have made a difference Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins. He did make a difference two nights earlier at Lola's Restaurant. Davis and his wife, Kelly, have an organization called the Defending Dreams Foundation. It's a good name. The name says that no matter who you are or how you grow up, you're entitled to dream and you're...

Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis hopes to remain with the Panthers next season, regardless of the rules surrounding his upcoming free agency. Davis was in the locker room Wednesday, preparing for surgery on Nov. 30 to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Davis was injured in a loss to New Orleans earlier in November, ending his most productive season as a pro. "I can't...

Somehow, I get the feeling that with the injury to Thomas Davis it's going to take a pretty big bite out of a potent Panther defense. When we look back on this season 10 years from now, what are we going to remember it as? For myself, I'll remember this season as a season that could have led to a deep playoff run and maybe even a Super Bowl, but instead became the biggest letdown in franchise history....

After we put a whuppin' on the Panthers earlier this season, you can bet they're going to want to return the favor in this one. With talented linebacker Thomas Davis gone for the year and noted Atlanta Falcon enemy DeAngelo Williams questionable, however, there are some holes we can exploit....

After a slow start to the season, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner has found his stride over the last two weeks. With Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis suffering a season-ending injury last weekend, Turner's job this Sunday just got a bit easier.

(By Charles Chandler, cchandler@charlotteobserver.com) The Carolina Panthers signed linebacker Kelvin Smith off of their practice squad to fill the vacancy on their 53-man roster created by linebacker Thomas Davis ' season-ending knee injury. Davis, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in last week's 30-20 loss at New Orleans, was placed on the injured reserve list.

The Panthers today lost perhaps their most productive defensive player when tests showed weakside linebacker Thomas Davis has a torn ACL in his right knee. Davis’ season-ending injury came without getting hit in Sunday’s loss to New Orleans. He was backpedaling when stopped to plant and his knee buckled. He crumpled to the turf [...]
