Hey, when I think Texas, I think..dairy farming. Not really, although I'm sure there are some dairy farms in the Lone Star State. But 45 miles north of Chicago is Wisconsin...America's Dairyland...so wouldn't it make sense to have the International Dairy Foods Association trade show so close to Wisconsin. Of course it would. But Dallas, not Chicago, will host that show, Crain's Chicago Business reports....

Crain's Chicago Business takes a look at Chicago's trouble trade show and convention business. Among other things, the agency in charge of the city's exhibition halls, nicknamed "McPier," is being accused of online-voting ballot stuffing. Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of joining 3,000 runners for the Dean Karnazes Silicon Valley 5k/Half Marathon/Marathon in San Jose, CA. It was a wonderful romp through San Jose that introduced me to some great running areas, and a chance to test my speed at the half marathon distance. Just when I thought Dean 's announcement from the Chicago Marathon was big time branding (he thanked his sponsor,...

We arrived in Chicago on Friday a.m., and by night time -we'd had a tour of Michigan Avenue. In the evening we went to the House of Blues for dinner, then walked around a bit. The photos were all taken by me, as we enjoyed the life in the big city. This was 2 weeks ago, in time for DD# 2 (not 3) to run the Marathon. I hope you enjoyed the tour of our first night in Chicago! There will be more later,...

Sadly, runner deaths in major marathons are not usual. I've run run 31 of them, in four of those 26.2 mile races, runners died. During the today's 32nd Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon, two runners collapsed between the 11 and 12 mile markers. At 9:02 am, Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, Michigan went down--15 minutes later Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, was stricken. In the half marathon,...

TORTOLA - Among the 46,000 runners in Sunday's Chicago Marathon bracing the 30-plus degree temperatures, were several people from St. Croix and Tortola - not competing for any of the big prize money at stake - but merely bragging rights. St. Croix runners had thrown a challenge to their Tortola counterparts for the "unofficial Virgin Islands trophy."

They were running for Team Salute, an organization which I had not heard of until that day. Here is how Team Salute describes itself: Salute was founded in 2003 by Will and Mary Beth Beiersdorf of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Shortly after 9/11,...
