Mets GM Omar Minaya arrived at the Winter Meetings less than an hour ago, and talked to reporters before heading up to the team’s suite, and said: “The free-agent stuff, that seems to be going a little slower this year than in past years… There have been some trade potentials out there. I know I talked [...]

A few links the night before all Hot Stove hell breaks loose... MLB.com's Carrie Muskat spoke to a Rangers' official who said the team would be willing to bring Milton Bradley back, however they're not sure they want to deal with "that headache" again. Jon Heyman of SI.com tweets that the Angels will compete with the Mariners for John Lackey and Jason Bay, but they won't bid $100MM. Omar...

The blame game played by Jerry Manuel extends to his coaching staff and into the offseason. Because now the word from Dan Warthen is that the Mets catchers are to blame for the terrible pitching exhibited by the Flushing Futiles. According to Bart Hubbach: Omar Minaya’s shopping spree at catcher — a campaign that remains unfinished — [...]

According to El Universal, the Mets initially requested that Francisco Rodriguez refrain from playing in the Venezuelan Winter League. However, Rodriguez’s agent talked to Mets GM Omar Minaya, and the two sides reached an understanding. Rodriguez allowed one run and two hits in his first appearance this winter with Tiburones de La Guaira. …from what i understand, it’s customary [...]...

Jack Curry of the New York Times believes Omar Minaya’s top priority during next week’s Winter Meetings will be to try and trade 2B Luis Castillo so he can sign free-agent 2B Orlando Hudson. …like i said last month, by biggest fear is that the Mets will actually be able to trade castillo, but then turn [...]

This entry is part 2 in the series Mets Free Agent TargetsDespite already having a competent backup in Omir Santos, the Mets have signed two backup catchers — Chris Coste and Henry Blanco — and are in the market for a starting backstop. We know Omar Minaya has his eye on Bengie Molina, but he’s [...]

In a vacuum, signing Henry Blanco for one year and $1.5 million is a strong move. This is a solid defensive catcher with a decent bat. The cost is fair for a backup catcher of his caliber. However, with all signs continuing to point to a Mets / Bengie Molina two year, ~$14 million marriage, the contract makes little sense. Take a look at the career splits of these two backstops vs. right-handed and...

According to NPR Tracker Twitter page (hat-tip to Chad Jennings ) "Omar Minaya asked Arn Tellem for the results of Hideki Matsui's physical." This move makes no sense to me, at least from the Mets perspective. I can't see how Matsui can survive playing the outfield everyday in the NL. Unless the Mets want him to be a part-time player, I don't think it make sense. I think we all know Matsui...

I just can't believe how negative some Mets fans have become, scouring the blogosphere I've seen nothing but negative comments about how the Mets are handling the off-season. Anybody who reads this blog knows I'm no longer a fan of Omar Minaya's but he's our GM so I hope for the best and see no point complaining about ever insignificant signing that occurs. I too am feeling impatient, especially after...

Mets GM Omar Minaya has requested the results of a physical for Hideki Matsui, according to a tweet from NPBtracker (h/t Chad Jennings). I’m guessing Minaya’s instincts are telling him Matsui might be able to play the outfield again. I have no clue where he’s getting these instincts, but the Mets seem to [...]

According to NPBtracker’s twitter, the Mets have asked to see the results of a Hideki Matsui physical. That could be Omar Minaya simply kicking the tires and turning over every rock, or it could be legitimate interest in putting Matsui in the outfield. It a lot of ways, Matsui would make sense for the Mets. They certainly need a [...] Click on the headline for the rest of this blog post ...

According to NPB Tracker, “Omar Minaya asked Arn Tellem for the results of Hideki Matsui’s physical.” …the Mets are going to ask about, look in to, talk with, and guage interest in all sorts of players, which does not mean they’re going to sign them all… …omar should be collecting information, while weighing his options, and [...]
