Joe Girardi was on WFAN this afternoon with Mike Francesa. You can listen to the interview on the WFAN site. It was the usual stuff, much of what you heard on Monday. There was one part that had to make Brian Cashman cringe, however. Asked about his relationship with the media, Girardi said: “I think it’s pretty [...]

On Sunday and again on Monday, Joe Girardi said he did not anticipate making any changes to his coaching staff before 2009. The question seemed to surprise him. Brian Cashman got the same question yesterday and said it was something they had to discuss during the coming organizational meetings. That could well mean nothing happens. Cashman very [...]

In an interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesca Tuesday, GM Brian Cashman said the following: There are only two starters with spots in the ‘09 rotation: Wang and Chamberlain. Joe Girardi did not manage the media well. Jason Giambi’s option won’t be picked up, but it is still to be decided if he will be retained. [...]

Just spoke to Joe Girardi, who was nice enough to return a call a few hours after he arrived home in Florida. Until he landed, he didn’t know for sure that Brian Cashman would return as GM. “I found out around 5 o’clock,” he said. “I was thrilled.” Girardi said having Cashman back at GM was a [...]

Since I’ve never played Major League Baseball, I’m not quite sure how important the coaching staff really is to a team’s success. Nevertheless, there has been some banter on the topic since the season ended. PeteAbe thinks the team should hire former Yank Don Baylor to sit beside Joe Girardi. I’ve heard people mention Willie [...]

Just caught this over at Baseball Think Factory. While many assumed that Joe Girardi pulled Joba Chamberlain in the eighth inning of Sunday’s early game because he was trying to protect Mike Mussina’s 20th win, that might not be the whole truth. “Several people” said that Joba admitted his shoulder felt tight. This, of course, [...]

NEW YORK -- Yankees right-hander Mariano Rivera will have surgery on his pitching shoulder in the off-season, but he should be ready to throw by spring training. Manager Joe Girardi said the surgery -- a shaving down of a calcified joint in the shoulder blade -- doesn't appear to be serious, and there is no structural damage.

In case anyone was unsure what the Yankees' top offseason priority is, Joe Girardi spelled it out yesterday - improving their starting rotation.

In what could be perceived as an open casting call to elite free-agent-to-be pitchers such as CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, Joe Girardi said Monday there would be "a conscious effort" to upgrade the Yankees' starting rotation this winter.

Joe Girardi rounded the corner, bounded into the Yankees clubhouse and began dragging a big garbage can back to the manager's office.

Andy Pettitte stopped by for a few minutes. While Joe Girardi has said he thinks the lefty will be back, Pettitte is not ready to say that quite yet. “I need to get away and weigh some things over,” he said. “I know what I want to do and what Im expected to do but I [...]

BOSTON - The debate that will not die was on the table in manager Joe Girardi's office yesterday while the Yankees and Red Sox waited for the sky to stop crying over Fenway Park. Starter or reliever? Yup, on the final day of a very disappointing...

The Yankees are finished, their 89-73 record not quite good enough to qualify for the postseason. They finished six games out of the wild card. In the newspaper of March 27, I predicted the Yankee would finish 87-75 and out of the playoffs. Not bad. Joe Girardi: “It was a tough season for us. We weren’t [...]

Ed Price, Yankee beat writer for the troubled Star Ledger, has been one of the more reliable reporters this year. He’s consistently offered up what I feel are fair assessments of the team through thick and thin. If The Star-Ledger goes under, as has been rumored around the New York media circuit recently, I hope [...]
