Let's take a look Around the Yankee Universe this morning. Not a lot of news on the last Saturday before Thanksgiving, but always some interesting stories around our New York Yankees . GOOD LUCK, SHELLEY: The Yankees have dropped Shelley Duncan from the 40-man roster, again, and it appears Duncan's Yankee career is over . Personally, I wish Duncan well. He can be a productive big-league hitter if he...

MLB Trade Rumors pointed me to this report, which points to another report that I can’t read without a translator. Basically, Chien-Ming Wang was asked about his uncertain offseason for what must have been the thousandth time. He said he prefers to stay with the Yankees, but the idea of playing for Joe Torre was brought [...] Click on the headline for the rest of this blog post ...

Chien-Ming Wang appears open to pitching for the Dodgers if the Yankees cut him loose, according to a Taiwanese report passed along by Diamond Leung. Reporters brought up the Dodgers idea and Wang replied, "Not bad" and talked about his comfort pitching for Joe Torre. Wang is nearly certain to be non-tendered by the Yankees after having surgery in July to repair a torn ligament in his shoulder...

Per Bill Shaikin's piece in the Times , but what's weirder is the by-now ridiculous comment from Bud Selig on the McCourt splitup: Mannion said the divorce has not affected the club's day-to-day operations. Commissioner Bud Selig said Wednesday he believes the club is "in good hands" for now under McCourt, Colletti and Manager Joe Torre. Damning with faint praise?

The Managers of the Year were announced earlier today and Squawker Lisa and I just competed in a trivia contest , so here's a trivia question: Who won the American League Manager of the Year in 2000 and who finished second? And who did they beat out? Before I give the answers, Lisa and I had a great time at the trivia contest, which was run by our fellow blogger The Omnipotent Q of the Mighty Quinn...

NEW YORK -- Jim Tracy of Colorado won the National League Manager of the Year award Wednesday -- and earned a new contract, too -- while Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels was selected for the American League honor. Tracy became the second manager to win the award after taking over during the season, joining Jack McKeon for Florida in 2003. Less than an hour after the award was announced, the...

by Jeff Fletcher Filed under: MLB Awards Jim Tracy didn't even need a whole season to earn the NL Manager of the Year Award, or to earn a three-year extension. The last time the Yankees had a lame-duck manager was 2007, when Joe Torre was in the final year of his deal. Torre’s contract was a distraction all year, the Yankees lost (again) in the first round of the playoffs and we all know how the winter went from there. Now it’s Joe Girardi going into [...] Click on the headline for the rest of this blog post ...

Joe Torre may be telling the media how happy he is that the Yankees won the World Series, but he bashed George Steinbrenner - again - in the Los Angeles Times, comparing The Boss to Torre's abusive father. I thought he went way too far with this. Check out my Faster Times piece on it. While Torre has done admirable work with his Safe at Home foundation to prevent domestic violence, he should know better...
