As a "reward" for loyal fans and season ticket holders for a 75 win campaign, the Blue Jays organization is considering jacking up the price of single game tickets for next season according to the Globe & Mail . In addition, the team is cutting back benefits for season ticket holders such as free plane trips to Dunedin next spring. What's next? Inviting dead players to try out before...

Evil Empire manager Joe Girardi is looking to change his uniform number from 27 to 28. My suggestion to him is to 86 this idea. Another would involve the number 96 backwards and any of his players. In all fairness, Girardi did bail someone out of a jam recently. Personally, I think it's ridiculous for managers and coaches to have numbers to begin with. They're usually wearing team-issued windbreakers...

Mike Wilner says a lot of things I agree with in his post yesterday talking about Vernon Wells and Edwin Encarnacion 's wrist surgeries. In two of the last three years Vernon has had terrible seasons and seemingly in both he has tried to play through injuries. Now to his credit, neither year has he tried to use the injury as an excuse. In 2007 he hurt his shoulder and he never said anything about it,...

With postseason baseball still going on, there isn't much to talk about Orioles -wise beyond the minor moves that have been made in the past few days. I figure with 1 to 2 days of the baseball season remaining, it might be fun to take a look at the events of the 2009 Orioles seasons. Not a recap or analysis, really, as a ton of sites have already done that, but a look back at some memorable events...

On this day in MLBTR history: Last year, the Blue Jays fired manager John Gibbons and Matt Holliday talks were still swirling. In '07, we actually cared who was on Eric Gagne's team veto list and saw Michael Barrett get traded to the Padres. Bill Ladson at MLBlogs got word that reports that a Nationals rep saw Pedro Martinez pitch Friday are untrue. Joe Pawlikowski at River Ave. Blues takes issue with...

Gonna free fall out into nothing Gonna leave this world for a while It was just about this time last season when a three week death spiralcost John Gibbons his job. What's different about this one? Two things, mainly. This one has gone on a little longer. The bad streak from last year covered 19 games. The team went 4-15, and Gibbons walked the plank when it reached 4-13. The 2009 team has just lost...

While I had the spreadsheet open, I thought I'd check Jays starts onshort rest. This data goes all the way back to the beginning. No Blue Jay has ever started a game with 0 days rest, but 9 times a Toronto pitcher has started with just 1 Day of Rest. Which sounds a little alarming, but in each case what had happened is the pitcher made a relief appearance, didn't pitch the next day, and started the...

Every once in a while, I get asked a question via the form at TorontoMike.com/contact.html . Here's a question I just received. Who was the third baseman that nearly came to blow with John Gibbons a few seasons ago and where is he now? Ah yes, John Gibbons, super scrapper. I remember two physical fights between Gibbons and his players. The first altercation, and the one I believe you're referring...
