Chips Ahoy

According to Sun-Times beat reporter, Gordon Wittenmeyer , with the signing of John Grabow to a 2/7.5 contract (backended as only Jim Hendry can do) and the trading of Aaron Heilman to the Snakes, the Cubs have supposedly made their final bullpen move of the offseason. The deal appears to secure the final key piece to the Cubs' projected 2010 bullpen, coming one day after the team traded veteran Aaron...

Trade Market: Righty Relievers

Finishing up our Trade Market series, today we'll take a look at righty-relievers (those not covered in the closer post). We've already seen a few right-handed relievers dealt in Jesse Chavez and Aaron Heilman, with the latter deal more predictable. Dan Wheeler, Rays. If the Rays prefer a change at the back end of their bullpen, they could deal Wheeler and free up $4.5MM. The 32-year-old displayed...

Week In Review: 11/15/2009 - 11/21/2009

As Sunday afternoon crawls along at a slower-than-usual pace, we'll take a look back at the past week here on MLBTR: We saw one trade this week, as the Diamondbacks acquired Aaron Heilman in exchange for minor leaguers Scott Maine and Ryne White. We saw several reactions to the trade shortly after; personally, I feel like getting anything for Heilman is a solid move, as he was a likely non-tender candidate....

Weekend Update ... Castillo, Halladay and Other Cubs Rumors

The Chicago Cubs made a little noise last week with the two-year, $7.5 million deal for John Grabow and send Aaron Heilman to Arizona for a pair of prospects. Then Friday afternoon, the Cubs added five players to their major league roster ... three expected and two, well a little surprising. John Gaub , Welington Castillo and Blake Parker along with Rafael Dolis and James Adduci were protected from...

This Week in AZ Baseball

The hot-stove season is now officially under way, with the free-agent market opening on Friday morning, with 171 players putting themselves on the auction block. Relief pitcher John Grabow was the first to go, getting a $7.5m, two-year deal from the Cubs . He has been pretty good over the past couple of seasons, but this seems like the Northsiders doing what they do best, overpaying for mediocre talent,...

No Frenzy ... Just Trades for the Cubs

Tim Lincecum picked up his second consecutive NL Cy Young award on Thursday. The BBWAA awards will take a break on Friday and pickup next week with the announcements of the NL and AL MVPs. One note on the NL Cy Young award, Keith Law and Will Carroll might steer clear of St. Louis for a few months. Let the free agent frenzy begin ... just not on the North Side of Chicago. The majority of changes the...
