Free agency looms. Will any of the Twins five free agents return? It's been confirmed that the Twins have had opening talks with Carl Pavano's agent, but other than Ron Gardenhire saying he'd be interested in bringing back Orlando Cabrera as his second basemen there's been no news on the rest of Minnesota's remaining free agents. (And really, if he wasn't, would Hendry be doing his job?) The key word in Rogers' second paragraph, however, is "if." If Dave Dombrowski is willing to trade Granderson, Hendry wants...

I created UZR projections for the 2010 season and the values are available on a Google Documents Spreadsheet . I got 4 years worth of UZR numbers from Fangraphs. Then I did a 5-4-3-2 yearly weighting regressed to 125 games with a -0.7UZR aging factor ( article where the math is explained ). I selected for the worksheet any players that played in at least 63 games at the position over the last 4 years....

Here's how those moves look through the Tigers lens: White Sox: They let go of right fielder Jermaine Dye, 35, when they didn't pick up his $12 million noption for next season. Dye, a Tigers tormentor, has hit 16 career homers at Comerica Park -- the most by any visiting player in the 10-year history...

At The Detroit Tigers Weblog , Bill Ferris looks at the team's 40-man roster , which currently has 44 players on it (due to some being protected on the disabled list). So the Tigers have some decisions to make, especially as some minor leaguers will need to be protected. Bill speculates who the first cuts will likely be. The San Francisco Giants re-signing second baseman Freddy Sanchez last week seemed...
