Just a few scenarios, in no relevant order: 1. Adam LaRoche – He’s a free agent, probably the best available on the market. We all know the story, power-hitter, not a great deal of patience, loopy swing conducive to K’s and a mediocre average, fringe-average defensively, horrible base runner, left-handed. You know when a career .834 [...]

More photos » by Winslow Townson - AP Billy Wagner could wind up in an Atlanta Braves uniform next year. Browse more photos » Keith Law ranks the top-50 free agents at ESPN Insider. Some interesting notes: He lists Mike Gonzalez 16th, ahead of Rafael Soriano , saying they are the two best relievers on the market, but he considers Gonzo healthier and more valuable from the left side. Baseball Prospectus: Minor League Free Agents It's subscription-only, unfortunately. This is a nifty writeup of the available minor league free agents. Picking up strikeout-and-walk guy Alexander Smit , formerly of the Reds, and turning him into a full-time reliever seems like the sort of thing Neal Huntington might do. The minor league free agent list includes a couple of other interesting, and semi-familiar,...

The NY Post has the full list of possible free agents this offseason . The Mets have only one free agent they may have concerns about losing, and that's Delgado. Really, all decisions about 2010 flow from Delgado - they can try to stick with the hand they have and keep him, bring in another veteran for at least a stopgap, or just go younger. The first base options aren't superstars, but Adam LaRoche...

The Atlanta Braves had four of five eligible players file for free agency yesterday. First baseman Adam LaRoche , outfielder Garret Anderson , pinch hitter Greg Norton , and reliever Mike Gonzalez all filed for free agency, leaving only reliever Rafael Soriano yet to file. The two relievers, Gonzalez and Soriano, are both type-A free agents, meaning the Braves would receive two first round draft picks...

Depends on a lot of things, obviously, but what parameters would make signing him a net positive. First of all, let’s look at Adam LaRoche, the player™. LaRoche was re-acquired for Casey Kotchman at the 2009 trade deadline in the hope that he would provide some much needed power for the line-up that had been largely [...]

I think Adam LaRoche would be the perfect fit for this team at 1B, the 29 y/o left handed hitting 1B is a solid defender with a decent power stroke. LaRoche has hit 20 or more homeruns in all but his first season and in three of his six seasons he has hit 25 or more homeruns. For Citi Field his bat would be perfect, a natural gap hitter with 205 doubles in his first six seasons, the last three seasons...

MLB Trade Rumors (Free subscription) | 11/03/2009
If and when Tim Hudson signs an extension with the Braves, MLB.com's Mark Bowman says GM Frank Wren appears likely to shop Derek Lowe or Javier Vazquez. Moving one of the two veterans would create the financial flexibility to allow the Braves to pursue a first baseman, a closer and, possibly, an outfielder. It's a "strong possibility" that Adam LaRoche, Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano will...

For all NL right-fielders with at least 100 plate appearances, Matt Diaz led the league in batting average and on-base percentage. He was behind six other players in slugging percentage in the NL, but he was behind...

ATLANTA – Florida Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco struck out nine consecutive batters against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night, one short of the major league record. The streak ended with a leadoff double by Adam LaRoche in the sixth inning, and Nolasco finished with a club-record 16 strikeouts. After throwing more than 120 pitches, he was lifted by manager Fredi Gonzalez with two outs in the eighth....
