Some believe that Omar gets brain lock on certain players and that once he likes them, he waits for the right opportunity to acquire them. I'm not sure if I can agree with that, since there have been several players he seemed to really want, only to not claim them off waivers when they fell from grace ( Deny Baez / Jorge Cantu come to mind) but then again he has acquired several players he had with...

On Monday I went over the best individual moments for the positional players. Today we're moving on to the pitchers. I didn't include Al Reyes or Gary Glover because...they're Al Reyes and Gary Glover. Remember, we're thinking positive here. Shields: Another one that can be debated. Was it his two hit shutout against Beckett and Boston, or was it the one hit, no walk, shutout against Anaheim? To me...

Ok, here's a closer look at the 40 man roster, without changing the core of the team there will still be a significant change to the roster...... Some random links for today... McCovey Chronicles thinks Rich Aurilia would be a nice fit for the '09 Giants. Tyler Kepner of the New York Times says the Yankees never really had to give up on Javier Vazquez. The Mets released Al Reyes; he never pitched for them. Reyes had nine saves for the Rays in April of last year, but it's mostly been downhill since then. Jason Varitek does not want to talk about...

The Mets have released RHP Al Reyes after not having thrown a pitch for the team. Reyes was 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA in 26 games with the Rays this season. It was clear that Jerry Manuel wasn’t planning on using Reyes so this is the best thing for everyone. I guess the three Reyes’ won’t be able [...]

What an indictment it is when your released after it takes the Mets seven relievers to hold onto a game against a last place team that they had a six run lead in and your not one of the pitchers involved in the meltdown. That's what Al Reyes faced today when he was released prior to the game. Reyes never made one relief appearance with the Mets, many including myself thought he might end up closing...

According to tonight’s broadcast on SNY, relief pitcher Al Reyes was released by the Mets without ever having made an appearance. The Mets signed him in August after he refused an assignment from the Rays. At this point in time, especially after a day like yesterday where the Mets clearly showed that their bullpen is [...]

In a pair of minor moves made before the game, the Mets New York Mets released veteran reliever Al Reyes and sent catcher Gustavo Molina back to Venezuela so he could get ready to play winter ball. Al Reyes had not appeared in any games since being signed and called up at the start of the month.

So Jerry Manuel has Johan Santana on a 170-pitch count this evening after burning through most of the bullpen last night (Al Reyes, where art thou') While throwing that many pitches would necessitate a herculean effort, it would not set a Mets record. Baseball-Reference.com has a handful of pitch counts from games from the Mets earliest days, and within that exists a game in which a Mets pitcher threw...

I’m speechless. Really what can you say about when your team wins and you still feel like it was a loss. Eight pitchers to win a nine inning game? That’s almost impossible. And why is Al Reyes warming up in the bullpen and you don’t use him? In fact what is the deal-ieo with “I [...]

Al Reyes has the most saves of any active player on the Mets roster, just last year he saved 26 of 30 opportunities. I expected the Mets to see what Reyes could provide down the stretch, whether it was as a set-up man or closer. It's true that he posted an ERA of 4.37 which resulted in his release from the Rays but if you asked Reyes he would say that he had an elbow injury early in the season and...

I had gone under the presumption that Billy Wagner wouldn't be back this season, hoping that either Luis Ayala or AL Reyes could step-up into the closers role after the in-house options of Sanchez, Feliciano, Smith and Heilman failed. But then after all of the positive reports about Wagner's progress I became optimistic about his chances of returning. All he needed was one more pain-free simulated...

In his column for SI.com today, Jon Heyman lays a few nuggets about the Mets. Heyman notes that until Wagner comes back, Jerry Manuel will have to play roulette with the bullpen with various new arms such as former closer Al Reyes and fire-baller Bobby Parnell. This is clearly the best way to handle the bullpen right [...]
