This is the third consecutive year for the Blogger awards. and I'm back in the saddle after not submitting a ballot in 2008. It's a fun look back at the past year. The final results of the voting will be put up at Dan's site at some point; I wouldn't expect it to happen tomorrow, but most likely by Thanksgiving. So, on to the voting: 1. Cardinal Player of the Year - Albert Pujols . Could there be any...

Albert Pujols will make another appearance at the Cardinals annual Winter Warm-Up, but you'll need a combination of timing and luck to get one. Other players? Not quite as tough.

News continues to be a slow and very small trickle at this time of year, so I was a little surprised to see an interesting story on the Post-Dispatch website this morning. According to John Mozeliak, Jason Bay is not a priority . It’s quite a change from the interest the organization had in Bay just a few years ago and, honestly, it’s what most of us expected them to look at if Matt Holliday...

Forget for a moment that Chris Coghlan and Andrew Bailey sound more like Irish rugby players than major league baseball's newest Rookies of the Year. Forget that they toiled in relative anonymity all season long for two non-playoff teams whose payrolls combined are less than half that of the Yankees. Forget that neither produced a statistical season of great historical importance or that a compelling...

The dead period continues, as a few rumors might trickle out during this period before the official start to free agency but not much else. Just a slow time for a baseball fan. There’s not even much Cardinal-related on MLB Trade Rumors , though I do note that one GM states Matt Holliday won’t get Mark Teixeira money. I don’t think anyone really believes that he will, not even Scott...

Just as in year's past, I'm going to guess at who will win the major awards, and who should win the major awards. I think the writers are getting better at these awards, but there's still a long way to go. In any event, my picks: Who Should Win Who Will Win AL ROY Rick Porcello Andrew Bailey NL ROY J.A. Happ Chris Coghlan AL MOY Ron Gardenhire Joe Girardi NL MOY Jim Tracy Jim Tracy AL Cy Young Zack...

Mike Scioscia's Tragic Illness : Mike says about everything I would have said (or have already said) about the whole "ace" issue, so just read it. Baseball Prospectus : Marc Normandin did a great profile of Matt Kemp in the midst of the playoffs, and I think there are some important points in it. Kemp got the starting gig in 2008, but when he didn't hit like Albert Pujols (or hit .340 again),...

The Yanks have several prospects playing in the AFL, so let's check them out the guys I've got my eye on. Mixed results for IPK, who has allowed less a hit per inning and has walked only 5 in 25 innings of work against 23 Ks. But the AFL is a hitters' league, and when they've connected they've made it count- he's allowed 13 ER in 6 games. He's taking his lumps, but he needs to be challenged to develop...

I created UZR projections for the 2010 season and the values are available on a Google Documents Spreadsheet . I got 4 years worth of UZR numbers from Fangraphs. Then I did a 5-4-3-2 yearly weighting regressed to 125 games with a -0.7UZR aging factor ( article where the math is explained ). I selected for the worksheet any players that played in at least 63 games at the position over the last 4 years....

My secret two-pronged plan for the catching position in 2010: Buster Posey starts. And if he hits .210/.290/.330 for his first 200 at-bats, he still starts. And if he allows a passed ball per week, he still starts. The Giants don't a roster that would be favored for a playoff berth right now. If they ever have that kind of roster in the near future, it will probably include Posey being an impact player....
