Gordon Beckham will bridge language barrier with Alexei Ramirez

New Chicago White Sox second baseman looking forward to challenge Unless Gordon Beckham improves his Spanish, or shortstop Alexei Ramirez expresses himself better in English, the biggest challenge for the White Sox's new double-play combination might be communication on the field.

White Sox Make "News" at GM Meetings

More photos » by M. Spencer Green - AP Kenny Williams: The Newsmaker Browse more photos » Not much happens at the GM meetings. But this year those meetings are taking place in Chicago -- an unnamed hotel near O'hare, actually -- which means the local Chicago rags can afford to send their writers to cover the relative non-event. So we've got a lot to link to for a week after the World Series...

Both sides come out ahead in Teahen swap

The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals hooked up for an intradivision trade the day after the World Series ended, agreeing to send 3B/RF Mark Teahen to the south side of Chicago in exchange for 2B Chris Getz and 3B Josh Fields. This trade is certainly no blockbuster, but the trade appears to be very telling on how each general manager is approaching the offseason and construction of its roster....

Angels Yet To Call On Aroldis Chapman

The Angels have been linked to free agent lefty Aroldis Chapman via scouting director Eddie Bane. Given Chapman's friendship with Kendry Morales and interest in Southern California, the Halos could be a decent fit. However, our source says the team has yet to call to express interest. Chapman is also friendly with Alexei Ramirez of the White Sox. We reported Chicago's interest on October 22nd, but...

2010 Bill James Projections: White Sox Hitters

More photos » by Ben Margot - AP Browse more photos » The good people at ACTA Sports provided me a sneak preview at the 2010 Bill James projections, which will be made available the public the the 2010 Bill James Handbook ( available next week ). James tends to have the most optimistic projections of any of the major forecasters, specifically for young players (read: unestablished players,...

Shortstop for 2010 - what to do?

Short is a big issue for 2010. Scutaro cannot be counted on we'd haveto assume (the Jays would do full medicals to know a lot better than usI hope) so what do they do? A strong #1 or #2 shortstop is needed. With this staff it has to be aleague average or better defensive one too (ala Scutaro & McDonald)but ideally also an offensive force (as good or better than Scutaro in2009). Checking Fangraphs...

Fantasy Baseball: 2010 AL SS dynasty/keeper rankings.

More photos » by Bill Kostroun - AP Browse more photos » SS in the AL is pretty tough and I kinda feel sorry for you guys if you are stuck with some sketchy guys later on. Since it's a little thin, I'm not going to do big write-ups for these guys. I highly doubt these players will make or break your team. 1. Ozzie Was Just Protecting Our Kids - Gregor

Ozzie Was Just Protecting Our Kids - Gregor White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was obviously frustrated by six months of shabby baseball when he went off on his team after Saturday night's ugly loss to the Tigers. Without mentioning any names like, say, A.J. Pierzynski, Guillen lashed out at his players for watching college football in the clubhouse after blowing a 5-0 lead to Detroit and falling 12-5....

Is MLB running short at short?

Stalwart Bauxite AWeb posted this in another thread just a while ago: " ... even a declined Scutaro is one of the top 10-15 SS in the majors, unles his defense evaporates. Not exactly a great position in MLB right now." Maybe we were all spoiled by the Jeter/A-Rod/Nomar "trinity" a few years ago, following on the heels of a Larkin/Ripken era launch that really started us down the...
