More photos » by Elise Amendola - AP Curtis Granderson running into a wall at Fenway Park has to be some kind of metaphor for the Detroit Tigers' night vs. the Boston Red Sox. Browse more photos » This one wasn't looking good for the Detroit Tigers all day. Events conspired, shall we say. Tonight's scheduled starter, Armando Galarraga , came down with a flu bug yesterday. The pitcher who...

I didn't know a lot about baseball when I was 15. I thought Alex Rodriguez was the worst person in the world. I thought Jack Cust was a future MVP in the making. I thought John Stephens was going to change the way the world thought about pitching. I thought Mike Cameron was okay. I thought Darin Erstad was a flukey pile of crap. I thought Oakland was the model franchise, defense wasn't important, Gillick...

The Detroit Tigers shed one reliever from their roster by not tendering a contract to Aquilino Lopez by Friday's deadline for arbitration-eligible players. But they might be able to procure a new one from the list of non-tendered players who are now available as free agents. The big name that stands out for any team in need of bullpen help, especially one looking for a closer, is Takashi Saito . He's...

So let me see if I have this straight: The Detroit Tigers left James Skelton off their 40-man roster, leaving him to be snatched up in the Rule 5 Draft - which he was - then subsequently decide against tendering a contract to Aquilino Lopez , thus clearing a spot that could've been used to protect Skelton. Why wasn't Lopez just left off the 40-man roster in the first place? Well, as it turns out, the...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Zach Miner walked four batters and threw 49 pitches in two innings Tuesday night. It was his third straight unsmooth outing. On Wednesday morning, the Tigers sent Miner to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Aquilino Lopez, who'd been in the Tigers bullpen until he was sent down a few weeks ago when Fernando Rodney was activated.

Zach Miner paid the price for a 4 walk effort on Tuesday night with an assignment to Toledo. Aquilino Lopez who was being stretched out as a starter has been recalled to provide a strike thrower in the pen. Both moves are warranted, but my first thought when hearing of this was Denny Bautista. [...]
