Here's a concern moving forward, unless the Mets are going to build an incredible offense to over compensate for a mediocre rotation they need a solid number two pitcher. I Don't see the Mets signing Matt Holliday, Bengie Molina, Orlando Hudson, Garret Atkins ( for the bench) and trading for Adrian Gonzalez, so the rotation will need to be addressed. As far as free agency, there is John Lackey who...

A recent post by Tyler Kepner in the New York Times Bats blog kicks around the idea that the Yanks could be looking at one of the many high-upside starters available this off season. He writes: Ben Sheets, Rich Harden and Erik Bedard have all been top-of-the-rotation starters in the recent past. All are free agents [...]

Every year there are a few free agents who were once good, but who have succumbed to injury. They’re a baseball fan’s dream. We imagine the best of all possible worlds, an incentive laden contract that protects against loss and maximizes reward. If only the front office were smart enough to understand that, they’d have [...] Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees blog Don’t...

George A. King III had a few interesting pieces of info in his article this morning , here's the rundown. King said that Cashman still doesn't have a concrete idea about the free agent market. The team has still not had their meetings but "will chair the pro scout meetings that start tomorrow, so the Yankees may know better what the markets -- trade and free agency -- look like." He also...

When a devout Packers fan and unabashed Cowboys hater such as myself is fearful of Sunday afternoon's nationally televised clash turning into a double-digit embarrassment for Green Bay, you know that it's going to be a tense weekend: ● Texas inquired into the availability of Rays outfielder B.J. Upton as part of their standard off-season due diligence, but were evidently rebuffed, as there are...

The Astros as we all know are in a bit of a bind. Management wants to reduce payroll and presumingly go with a younger lineup, the problem with this is that the Astros have one of the worst farm systems in baseball, and the weakest part of the system lies at the upper levels. So throwing out a lineup that looks a lot like the one the folks at Round Rock saw all of last year is not likely to keep you...

During last off-season the Mets were extremely interested in Ben Sheets but reports indicated that they shied away after seeing medical records on his shoulder. The Mets were praised for their caution since Sheets ended up with a gentleman's agreement with the Rangers but never pitched an inning due to shoulder surgery. Sheet's agent reported that his client is healthy and will be ready for spring...

On November 20th, all free agents are eligible to sign with any MLB club, and unsurprising the speculation is already well underway. With the Mariners looking to turn last seasons 85 win team into a real competitor, expect the Mariners to be in the market for at least one key difference maker in free agency. Keep in mind that I have no inside knowledge, and that my suggestions/warnings are not indicators...

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick spoke to Ben Sheets' agent Casey Close, who said his client is doing well rehabbing his February flexor tendon surgery and plans to be ready for Spring Training. Close will apparently use Andy Pettitte as a positive comparable for the surgery. Pettitte had the surgery in August of 2004 and was ready for the start of the 2005 season eight months later. If we take Pettitte at his...
