strong>Billy Butler </strong>is working. That much he assures you. He is working, seven days a week, with a personal trainer and with yoga and weights and cardio and anything else he can find to get himself into better shape. It worked last offseason, and Butler figures it’ll work again. He said he came to spring training 15 pounds or so lighter than the previous year, and he did...

An emerging scenario has Getz replacing Callaspo as the starting second baseman, with veteran Willie Bloomquist available if Getz, a left-handed hitter, struggles against left-handed pitchers. Fields would become the starting third baseman, with Alex Gordon shifting to first base and Billy Butler drawing increased duty as the designated hitter. A lefty-righty platoon could develop since Fields has...

Baseball players can make contributions in a number of different ways, the most obvious and talked-about of which is how they do at the plate. Defense, position, and baserunning tend to be brushed off as secondary concerns. What follows are the top and bottom 15 in the sum of these latter three values, as determined by UZR, Fangraphs' position adjustment, and Baseball Prospectus' EQBRR. Note that catchers...

I've had over a month off from the Royals now and have been mulling over some ideas. This is my vision for the Royals in the upcoming 2010 season. Bear with me if you're bored and/or interested in one fans ideal vision for his cherished franchise. 1B- Mike Jacobs / Billy Butler Obviously Billy Butler is the man. He had a fantastic age 23 season with 50+ doubles. Its quite possible that a few of those...

More photos » by David Zalubowski - AP Seth Smith, one of several good draft selections by the Rockies in 2004. Browse more photos » As Tracy Ringolsby reported recently, Baseball America rated the Rockies' 2009 draft the best in baseball . With Tyler Matzek, Tim Wheeler, Rex Brothers, Chris Balcom-Miller, and Nolan Arendao, it's hard to argue otherwise. Still, we can't assess fully the...

Similar to the 2010 Relievers post from several days ago, this is meant to present a snapshot of who remains on the roster, can we jettison some dead weight, and are there any holes to be filled? The particulars about how many batters the team keeps on the 25-man and how many infielders/outfielders/Teahen-Bloomquist-IF/OF hybrids are kept will have a factor in the final roster (please allow some leeway...

Yesterday at Beyond the Box Score I wanted to see if Vladimir Guerrero was able to determine if a pitch was out of the strike zone and the results. The only person I could think of with worse strike zone judgement was Miguel Olivo . I ran the same numbers for Olivo and a few other Royals . For my strike zone, I used -1.2 and 1.2 for the x dimension and 1.5 to 3.5 for the y dimension. For the expanded...

It was the first three-game sweep of an American League team at home this season for the Royals. They've won four straight overall for the first time since June 12-16. Zach Miner (6-5) gave up three...

CLEVELAND – Kyle Davies carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and won his fourth straight start, pitching the Kansas City Royals past the Cleveland Indians 7-0 on Sunday. Davies (8-9) held the Indians hitless until Shin-Soo Choo lined a single to center to open the sixth. The right-hander walked six and struck out three over six innings in his second straight wild start. He walked six and gave...
