Going into 2008, it was clear that Minnesota’s starting rotation was going to be either its biggest liability or its trump card in the AL Central. Pessimists could point to the fact that four of their starters—Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Nick Blackburn and Boof Bonser—had combined for just 632 career innings pitched, none before 2005. By comparison, 163 individual pitchers had thrown more innings by...

We can assume that the Twins would’ve opened the season with a rotation of Johan Santana, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Boof Bonser and Livan Hernandez. Let’s run with this idea. This season for the Twins, Glen Perkins replaced Scott Baker in the rotation on May 10, because Baker had gotten injured. Perkins has remained in the rotation since. Then, when Baker returned to the rotation, he replaced Boof...

For those of you that got the Trailer Park Boys reference — we salute you. In other news, here we go again. Glen Perkins hadn’t dropped a decision since July 23rd but got lit up for 2 homers, 6 runs and 10 hits over just five innings. Boof Bonser then came in and gave up [...]

Because half-bad is better than no good. From Larry Stone, writing on the Seattle Times blog: On the rumors that the Twins were offering Boof Bonser, Washburn said: “If that was the case, how much more do you think you’re going to get? A young guy with a great arm who’s cheap.”

Twins Offered Bonser for Washburn I received indications that the Twins offered Boof Bonser. Makes sense, as he is out of minor-league options, and the Twins would need to clear a spot for Washburn. As I wrote recently, Bonser is only 26, and it makes sense for a team that is way out of the race to let Bonser make 10 starts down the stretch. Bonser isn’t even eligible for arbitration, so the Mariners...

Lookout Landing is just a tiny bit upset the Mariners turned now a deal that would send them Boof Bonser for Jarrod Washburn: Boof Bonser is a 26 year old righty with two years of service time and a career...

Hating on the Mariner's front office for a missed opportunity is a bit easy and redundant, but this is startling. Apparently the Twins offered Boof Bonser for Jarrod Washburn, and the Mariners somehow said no. Here are the problems with that 1.Boof Bonser is a better, younger, and cheaper pitcher than Jarrod Washburn. His 4.33 tRA (thanks StatCorner !) as a starter is well below the Mariners rotation...

Today's linkage... A friend pointed out to me how strange it is that the Twins were willing to take on Jarrod Washburn's salary and give up Boof Bonser but chose to trade Johan Santana before the season. If Bill Smith could go back in time, would he still make that deal? As expected, Jason Kendall's option for '09 vested. He's off the list! The Rangers were willing to trade Gerald Laird and a solid...

And it's not necessarily a bad thing. Boof Bonser is still in the bullpen, Livan Hernandez is still in the rotation, Mike Lamb is still taking up a bench spot and Craig Monroe is still this team's fifth outfielder. The Twins, quite predictably, have done nothing at the trade deadline, but that's not to say it's a horrible thing to have done. There were no easy, clear-cut deals to make. Rumors of Rich...
