Starting pitcher Braden Looper was bought out by the Milwaukee Brewers for $1 million this weekend. The other option for the Brewers was to pay Looper $6.5 million next season — but Milwaukee decided against that idea. The good news for Looper last season is that he led the Brewers in victories with a record of 14-7. The bad news is that he didn’t pitch very well. In fact, he led all of...

The wrist surgery for Vernon Wells went "well" ( get it ?) according to bluejays.com's Jordan Bastian . The 30 year-old center fielder is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year. Vernon Wells leads off from second base during a game against Baltimore August 9th. Wells chased reliever Matt Albers from the game with an RBI single in the seventh to score Adam Lind in...

Tom Haudricourt, in a post to his blog for the Milwaukee Sun Sentinel, is reporting that the Brewers have declined the option for Braden Looper, and instead will pay him a $1 million buyout. …it seems like it’s been an eternity since Looper was closing games for the Mets…he was good for the Mets in 2004 [...]

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have declined their $6.5 million mutual option on Braden Looper, electing to pay the pitcher a $1 million buyout.

The Milwaukee Brewers were smart to decline starting pitcher Braden Looper's $6.5 million mutual option, freeing up a significant amount of money to plug various holes. Looper led baseball in home runs, checking in at 194.2 innings of a 5.22 ERA. I don't think serving up all those home runs are sustainable, so it's likely he returns to a mid-4.50s ERA next year. Is that good enough to bring him back...

The Brewers declined their $6.5MM mutual option on pitcher Braden Looper, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. They'll instead pay a $1MM buyout. Looper posted a 5.22 ERA in 194.6 innings this year; the same kind of financial commitment can probably snag the Brewers someone better. Looper is a Type B free agent, but an arbitration offer is highly unlikely.

by Darren Hauck - AP Jason Kendall's ability to get hit by pitches isn't a good enough reason to bring him back for 2010, at any price. Your Type A and B free agents for the 2009-2010 Hot Stove season: TYPE A Matt Holliday : This seems pretty obvious. Bad news: the Mets , Holliday's current Media Suitor of choice, have a protected first rounder in 2010, leaving the Cardinals stuck with a second rounder should he end up bolting for Queens. I hate to root for the Red Sox , ever, for anything, but they do have the 29th pick... TYPE B...

Blum hit a three-run homer in the sixth and an RBI single in the ninth for Houston, which managed to get the win despite a shaky start by Roy Oswalt.
