Last offseason the Seattle Mariners were said to be fairly close to a three way trade involving the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays. When at first you don’t succeed, try again. Rumor has it that the three may be at it again (Bob Nightengale tweet, Prospect Insider post plus comments), with Brandon Morrow and [...]

The hot rumor of the day is that the M's and Tigers have been talking about a three-team deal involving Brandon Morrow and Edwin Jackson . I'm only bringing this one up because the M's have been linked to Jackson before, so I can believe in their possible interest. That said: (1) Jackson isn't very good. Don't believe the ERA. He took a step forward, to be sure, as he's cut his walks in three straight...

Let's round up some leftover Thursday links.... The Boston Globe's Amalie Benjamin spoke to Joe Urbon, Jason Bay's agent. Urbon suggested that discussion would continue with the Red Sox, but that interest in his client so far has been "extraordinary." Larry Stone of the Seattle Times warns Mariners fans not to get too excited about rumors of a three-way deal involving Brandon Morrow and the...

The Seattle Mariners have more than enough starting pitchers to fill their rotation in 2010, but not necessarily the right kind. Felix Hernandez slots in as the staff ace, but after that Seattle is looking at a lot of question marks. Ian Snell and Brandon Morrow both have great stuff and one of them could fill [...]

A few stray tidbits from the day: There were some rumors going around based on miscalculations that Brandon Morrow was eligible for arbitration as a Super Two. Luckily, that turned out to be a false alarm. The Mariners have five other players eligible for arbitration in Felix Hernandez, Franklin Gutierrez, David Aardsma, Mark Lowe and Ryan [...]

From the Seattle Times we get this news of another hiring in the Atlanta Braves front office. The past two seasons, since leaving the Boston Red Sox in 2006 and spending a year with the Houston Astros , he'd been with the Mariners...

For those of you hoping the Mariners would land the 18 year old hot Japanese prospect, you can forget about it - he's elected to stay home, and while he's strongly suggested that he'll want to make the move later in his career, that won't happen for a while, if ever; unless he's posted, he has to play nine years in Japan before becoming a free agent. So, so much for that. Not that the M's were ever...

You know how testy we get when people make comments about how awesome our could be in years? Remember the Nageotte/Blackley/Meche/Anderson rotations, Clement/Johjima/Johnson/Moore catching caches and Ichiro/Gutierrez/Saunders/Ackley outfields? We do our best to try and keep people grounded on these types of issues because, as it turns out, the future is incredibly hard to predict and a hell of a lot...
