Blogging the Offseason: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Blogging the Offseason is a 30 team series in which I ask a blogging representative from each MLB team a series of ten questions about their desires and thoughts surrounding the offseason. Check out all of them here . Today's AL team is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and our guest is Jim from the Angels Blog, Halos Heaven . 1. Both Lackey and Escobar are free agents this year. Will the Angels bring...

Today's Roy Halladay Rumor

This morning's LA Times and the Toronto Star have the Angels interested in Roy Halladay . The Times says that the Angels tried to trade for him at the deadline but that JP Riccardi wanted Erick Aybar in the deal and the Angels didn't want to trade Aybar. JP also wanted either Joe Saunders or Jered Weaver and outfield prospect Peter Bourjos . Bourjos, a 10th round draft pick in 2005 has had a pretty...

Angels 40-Man Roster Set at 38

As the rights to exclusive negotiations with their free agents closed, like every major league club, the Angels set their 40-Man Roster yesterday. It stands at 38. Here they are listed in order of the earliest that each can become a free agent. * means a club option exists for an extra year. After 2010 Brian Fuentes * Maicer Izturis Scot Shields After 2011 Bobby Abreu * Scott Kazmir * Gary Matthews...

Read My Lips, No New Free-Agents!!!

The void that will be created with the departures of John Lackey , Chone Figgins , Darren Oliver , and Vladimir Guerrero will be felt long after they sign new contracts with their new teams. Lackey is a true number one Ace, Figgins is a true lead off hitter and has great defensive skills, Oliver isn't only a lefty specialist, and Vladimir was the face of the franchise. But like Tony Reagins said on...

Analyzing the Third Base Candidates: Trade Targets

More photos » by Chris Carlson - AP If the Angels re-sign Figgins or sign Beltre, would they finally make Brandon Wood available? (AP Photo/Chris Carlson) Browse more photos » On Friday, we tackled the free agent possibilities at the hot corner. Ruben Amaro is said to be leaning toward signing a free agent, but due diligence dictates a look at potential trade targets as well. I've tried...

Angels, Tigers Discuss Granderson Trade

The Angels and Tigers have discussed a trade for center fielder Curtis Granderson, according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday. Davidoff says the Halos would use Granderson in left field and either shift Juan Rivera to DH or trade him. In my opinion, the Angels could fill several needs cheaply for the Tigers with players such as Mike Napoli and Brandon Wood. Davidoff adds that the Yankees "think very...

Alexia Amarista: Best Angels Prospect Performance #1

1) Alexia Amarista, 20 - 2B, A-Ball .319/.390/.468 with 4 HR and 38 SB's. +18 bat, +20 glove Only three players have put up better seasons in the Halos' system over the past five years: Brandon Wood in 2005, Howie Kendrick in 2005, and Sean Rodriguez in 2006. That's some pretty good company for Amarista, whom Baseball America failed to even mention in their Midwest League's top 20 prospects, despite...

A's Talk: Third Base, Duchscherer

Athletics general manager Billy Beane is looking at possible third base acquisitions, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. The A's face uncertainty with hot corner options Eric Chavez, Adam Kennedy, and Brett Wallace. Slusser says the A's are emphasizing youth and "unlikely to spend much money on free agents." So you have to question my earlier guesses that the A's will...

Happy trails, Pete: Phils decline Feliz's $5 million option

Happy trails, Pete: Phils decline Feliz's $5 million option Per Scott Lauber from the Wilmington News-Journal . Probably a good decision by the organization. Fangraphs had Feliz providing $12.4 million in value over the past two years (on an $8.5 million contract), but nearly all of that came from his glove work, which had been slipping a bit in recent years. The nostalgic among us will remember Feliz...

Is there room for Tejada on the Angels next year? Sure he's past his prime, but he did hit .313 last year with 86 RBI and 14 HR. He's a favorite of Arte (or at least he used to be). And Houston doesn't seem to want him next year. I think he'll put up better numbers than Brandon Wood in 2010.

Another Wished for Blue Jay Trade Bites the Dust.

A lot of us were hoping that the Blue Jays might be able to trade for J.J. Hardy to fill our need for a shortstop for the next few years. It's not going to happen , the Twins traded CFer Carlos Gomez to the Brewers for Hardy. I guess if the Brewers were looking for a cheap, strong defensive CFer we really didn't have anyone to send them. If you are wondering what free agents are available this offseason...

Abreu Signing Signals Chone Figgins Adios

More photos » by Kathy Willens - AP Figgy Stardust (AP Photo/Kathy Willens) Browse more photos » The Angels wasted no time in re-signing Bobby Abreu . The terms appear to be $19 Million Guaranteed money ($9 M each year and a $1 Million buyout for 2012 if they do not pick up the option for then - and it kicks in if Abreu posts 550 PA in 2011 or a combined 1200 PA in 10-11) . Think About Brandon Wood When You Watch the Phillies

Why You Should Think About Brandon Wood Every Time You Watch the Phillies Do you feel like Brandon Wood has never been given his shot, that Mike Scioscia has kept him down far longer than any good prospect should rot in the minors? Conversely, do you think that the mere fact that Wood is going into his age-25 year without having earned a spot is telling in itself, and/or are you of the mind that unproven...
