There is a solid case for Manuel to win the NL Manager of the Year But I don't think it will happen. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel entered the season guiding the defending World Series champions but he had a lot of adversity within the team to overcome en route to a third consecutive NL East title and second straight trip to the World Series. His "ace" Cole Hamels was anything but all season,...

I love Jamie Moyer . Who can not find a reason to not appreciate the character and wisdom of Moyer? Moyer is a guy who understands the game of baseball and would love to discuss it with anyone who would listen to his words. I absolutely love when a camera catches him discussing pitching to a younger pitcher like Cole Hamels , JA Happ , or Kyle Kendrick . With one year remaining on his contract the...

Less than a week removed from the World Series and the Phillies' hot stove is heating up. Chan Ho Park, Matt Stairs and Paul Bako joined Pedro Martinez, Miguel Cairo, Pedro Feliz and Brett Myers in filing for free agency. Free agents have been assigned Type A and B designation and now the stage is set for teams to talk turkey. Only Park and Eyre will garner extra picks for the Phils. Aside from a few...

The World Series is over, and the results of the 2009 Good Phight World Series Prediction Contest are in. Congratulations to ScottAZ for getting 6 points in the context. FuquaManuel tied ScottAZ, but as the rules state, I did a random drawing and ScottAZ won. I'll be contacting ScottAZ shortly about the prize. Here are the answers to each question asked in the contest. Cliff Lee wins: 2 Ryan Howard...

The Phillies management has plenty to do this offseason and they've already made a few decision. Brett Myers won't be back next season. Pedro Feliz could be back but not with his current contract. The Phils didn't pick up the option so he is now a free agent. I'm okay with both of these moves. What I'm not okay with is the lack of news about Eric Bruntlett. Ruben Amaro Jr. needs to come out immediately...

Brett Myers 's Phillies tenure officially ended this past week and he will be a free agent. The controversial righty made it known after a meeting with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.: I officially won’t be a Phillie next year. Myers tore a labrum in his hip this past season, requiring surgery. Usually a starting pitcher, he was placed in the bullpen upon returning in September and struggled...

The Myers Roller Coaster Express has been shutdown. No more Superman-esque performances, and no more painful minor league demotions. No more wife beating , and no more barroom fighting. Brett Myers time with the Phillies has officially come to an end as Ruben Amaro informed him that they would not be retaining his services. As Myers put it, "Kenny Powers is officially a free agent." I'm not...

FEWER THAN 48 HOURS after the Phillies were eliminated from the World Series, a clearer picture of the team's makeup for the 2010 season began to emerge. Cliff Lee, as expected, will be back as the Phillies exercised his $9 million option. Brett Myers, as expected, will not, with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. informing the veteran righthander in an early afternoon meeting that the team had decided...

Here goes: 1. Brett Myers will not be back with the team. According to this report in the Philadelphia Inquirer , the never-dull righty will not be offered a contract. There could be many reasons for this -- that the Phillies have doubts about his health, his maturity, clubhouse chemistry, or his ability to pitch consistently. This would have been more of a surprise had Myers not had a dust up with...
