The Astros left Koby Clemens and Drew Locke, among others, unprotected in the Rule 5 draft. That seems like a risk to me. Hopefully, Ed Wade is right when he says he put himself in the place of the other GMs and felt that they would not be players who could be kept on a ML roster for a full season. But the Astros reached that same conclusion regarding a young pitcher named Johan Santana and he was...

According to Baseball America, the Braves have released former phenom outfielder Brian Barton. Barton was considered a great athlete but went undrafted after a strong career at U Miami, as clubs believed he’d make use of his aerospace engineering degree rather than pursue baseball. However, he signed a $100,000 bonus (plus another $100K for schooling) with [...]

Nothing exemplifies the Hot Stove season quite like worrying about the Rule 5 draft. Most of the players don't stick it out all year; most of the ones that do are eventually traded for Ronnie Belliard or Blaine Boyer ; and most of the time it would be completely absurd to spend time thinking about this. Fangraphs won't return my calls, but according to my new WARP/seconds-in-your-limited-lifespan converter...

Brian Barton cleared waivers and was outrighted to Gwinnett. This opened a 40-man spot for Tim Hudson. Braves roster movement I wonder if this was the delay in possibly recalling Gregor Blanco. Not that he's an impact bat or anything, but he is likely a better option in center field than anything else we have.

Lehigh Valley 5, Gwinnett 7 JC Holt 2-4 3B, RBI, K, SB(12) B. Barton 1-3 HR(5), 3 RBI I would like to write more here but there just wasn't a whole lot ot get excited about despite the 7 runs. Francisley Bueno started the game but only pitched one inning before being pulled (I think this was rehab for him) for John Halama who pitched a solid 5 innings. Brian Barton 's 3-run shot was the difference...

By Brian Hughes, Staff Writer Brian Barton doesn't hate bottled water. He just doesn't get why some people drain their wallets for what he says could be funded by a piggy bank. "I don't understand why people buy that when you can have EPA-tested tap water for pennies compared to what (bottled) costs," he said.

Brian Barton's single with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Gwinnett Braves a 4-3 victory against the Louisville Bats on Saturday night in Lawrenceville.

In no particular order, at least, not in the order of the title. Great discussion today over on the United Cardinal Blogger Talkradio show. We spent the better part of an hour dissecting the MLB draft's first 2 days (and 23 rounds), then touched on a variety of topics. Wednesdays at 1930 PDT (7:30 pm for those of you in the military). In this article on the Atlanta Braves’ Brian Barton, the write pretty much brands the ballplayer an egghead. Last summer, during his first full season in the major leagues, he read 17 books. He recently finished off the 900-page “Roots” by Alex Haley. Which made me think of this line from Bull Durham by Max Patkin to [...]

In reading up on our new outfield acquisition, Brian Barton, I came across this Viva El Birdos Fan Post that refers to him as "Crabman." Naturally this is a reference to that guy on My Name is Earl, who was even better in the role of Rubber Band Man -- apparently he's typecast as "something-man" in every role he's in, not a bad gig. A pretty decent resemblance. The both sort-a have...
