For whatever reasons these "educated" voters gave the best pitcher awards to pitchers who lost a combined 15 games in 65 appearances. Bollocks says I. Forget these calculators and mathematical...
The deadline to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players is December 12, just a few weeks away. The Yankees will have decisions to make on a few players, including Melky Cabrera, Brian Bruney, Chad Gaudin, and Sergio Mitre. Chances are the Yankees will offer arbitration to all four, though I still think there’s a chance they’ll [...] Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees...
More photos » by Kathy Willens - AP Mariano liked his 'penmates. Browse more photos » Confession: I didn't find this season's bullpen nearly as exciting as the '08 version. First, CC, AJ, Andy and Joba contributed more than 170IP more than the 2008 top 4 starters of Moose, Pettitte, Rasner and Wang. Then, Phil Hughes locked down the 8th inning- 51IP, 0.86 WHIP, .228 SLG against, 11.4K/9....
If you haven't yet read David Ross' rant ‘Supporting Greinke' you are really missing something. Even if you are the staunchest of Yankee fan with no ability to appreciate any MLB player that is not on your team, you will find his angry outburst one of the more amusing commentary's on the state of baseball today. Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball has the full list of arbitration eligible players announced by the MLBPA on Thursday. Five Yankees appear and they are Brian Bruney, Melky Cabrera, Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre and Chien-Ming Wang. Let's tackle t...
Chien-Ming Wang, Melky Cabrera, Brian Bruney, Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre are all eligible for arbitration. The Yankees have to make any offer by December 12th. Melky will get an offer, I'd like to see the same thing happen with Bruney and Gaudin. It makes sense to bring them both back. I wouldn't expect Wang or Mitre to get an offer. Mark Feinsand points out that "The consensus seems to be that...
According to a tweet by Joel Sherman (via MLBTradeRumors.com), the Yankees plan on tendering the contract of RP Brian Bruney . Sherman believes that Bruney, 27, will make approximately $1.5 million dollars through the arbitration process. Bruney, who spent the year battling injuries, had a 3.92 ERA over 39 innings while striking out 36, although he gave up 23 walks along the way (and had a 1.51 WHIP.)...
Curtis Granderson: Joel Sherman at the Post reports that an NL executive told the paper that the Tigers have made it clear that center fielder Curtis Granderson could be available for the right offer. Sherman says that it's "likely" the Yankees wi...
More from Joel Sherman , who reports the Yankees "plan to tender arb-eligible Brian Bruney because his price (about $1.5M) will be reasonable". I think this is the smart move for the Yanks. Bruney showed signs that he was regaining his command towards the end of the regular season, though he did look awful in the playoffs. Still, he's got electric stuff and could end up being a useful reliever...
The Yankees plan to tender a contract to reliever Brian Bruney, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The estimated salary for the arbitration-eligible righty is around $1.5MM. Bruney made our list of non-tender candidates in October, on account of his sore elbow and high walk rate. He made $1.25MM this year, so Sherman believes Bruney's 39-inning season will limit his raise to 20%.
April Record: 12-10 Hitting Stars (OPS): Nick Swisher (1.121), Robinson Cano (.981), Melky Cabrera (.971) Pitching Stars (ERA)(> 6 IP): Mo Rivera (2.79), A. Pettitte (2.96), J. Chamberlain (3.13), Brian Bruney (3.38) The season began with a fizzle, as the Yankees dropped two of three to the Baltimore Orioles. On Opening Day CC Sabathia was a disappointment, allowing 13 [...]
Finally, a ring for Brian Bruney! Sincere congratulations to the New York Yankees and their humble fans on last night’s World Series-clinching 7-3 defeat of the Phillies, a victory that set off wild celebrations…in the executive offices of Modell’s Sporting Goods. While some will hail Hideki Matsui’s astonishing offensive display in Game 6 as [...]
With the 2009 World Series well underway (split one game apiece between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies), let's take this opportunity to break down each club to see how, where, and when each club obtained its talent. The Yankees organization has a long-standing reputation for "buying" its talent on the free agent market... but that really started about 15 years ago. Is...
For those of you left homeless and/or hopeless by the devastation Hurricane Cliff caused last night, it's probably no consolation that the sun is shining today. No consolation that yes, the Series will go on, at least for a few days more. No consolation that there's still a chance to even up the Series, no consolation that last night might be the last time we see Brian Bruney in 2009. All you can think...
The Yankees suffered their first Game 1 loss of the postseason last night, as the Phillies padded their lead late en route to a 6-1 victory . Starter CC Sabathia was hurt by two solo shots from Chase Utley, while Cliff Lee went the distance allowing just one unearned run. Once Sabathia had left, the close game fell apart for the Yankees. Damaso Marte let up both inherited runners from Phil Hughes in...
