Tank Nation

The 2010 Toronto Blue Jays: Welcome to Tank Nation. I agree with virtually everything they say, with the exception of the Tallet comments. I developed a fondness for Brian Tallet last year. Must be the ’stache.

Arbitration Eligible Jays

We have 10 players who are eligible for arbitration this off season. Shawn Marcum, Dustin McGowan , Brandon League , Jose Bautista , Jason Frasor , Jeremy Accardo , Brian Tallet , Shawn Camp , Casey Janssen and Raul Chavez . If you are Alex Anthopoulos , which ones do you offer arbitration to, which ones do you negotiate with and which ones do you let walk away? The Jays, in JP's time never actually...

Part three of our look at the Bill James Player Projections for our Blue Jay players, this time we look at the pitchers. Part one is here and part two is here . These come from the Bill James Handbook , that will come out soon from ACTA Sports . Roy Halladay 33 Starts, 240 IP, 179 K, 17-10, 3.23 ERA They are expecting him to have basically the same season as this one. A slightly higher ERA than this...

Brian Tallet is Worth $8.2 Million

Don’t get me wrong. I like what Mr. Tallet brings to the club. Well, mostly the porn star moustache. In my mind he did a decent job in his injury replacement starter duty and mid-inning relief. Yet Fan Graphs estimate his ’salary’ value to the Jays to be worth $8.2 million in 2009. This would put [...]

What do the Jays have they can trade?

Mike Wilner, on the weekend, put out his 'plan' to 'save the Jays'. Actually it was his second suggested plan, on the theory that the Jays were going to raise the payroll to $120 million. This one is very trade heavy, trading off a bunch of pitchers (and Travis Snider ) for Felix Hernandez , Prince Fielder and a bunch of other guys. I always find suggesting trades is a tough thing because as a Jay's...

This come from behind stuff is great, why couldn't we do this earlier in the season?

After all this, my love is up and must be leaving: Last Home Game Thread

The last home game of the season, so since we've been going with George Harrison songs lately, I thought one of my favorites works for it, All Things Must Pass is a song you can play at my funeral. Everything has a ending. Anyway, todays game has Brian Tallet starting for the Jays and Ryan Rowland-Smith going for the M's. Unfortunately Smith is a lefty so....well let's lok at the lineup: Lineup Seattle...

The Wisdom of Crowds - Blue Jay Edition

As the 2009 season winds down to its depressing conclusion the only possible cure is to focus on 2010 and look for positive signs. It goes without saying that the Jays need to do what we, the knowledgable fans, think they should do. So let's try and see if Batters Box can use the wisdom of our crowd to come up with a prioritized to-do list for the 2010 team. All of you are invited to submit your top...

Happy Birthday Danny Cox

It is Danny Cox 50th birthday today. Danny came into the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals , playing for them for the first 6 years of his career. He had a couple of terrific seasons as a starting pitcher for them, going 18-9 with a 2.88 ERA in 1985 and then 12-13 with a 2.90 ERA in 1986, but he threw 461 innings between the two seasons. Unsurprisingly, that number of innings led to elbow troubles...

Ain't Gonna Work on Maggie's Farm No More: Jays' 2009 Minor League Affiliates' Season in Review, Part I

Hi everyone. Before we update our top prospects list, let's take a broader view at what has been going on among the Jays' minor-league affiliates this season. Part I will focus on the lower-level affiliates, Part II on the teams closer to the majors. Gulf Coast League Blue Jays : The GCL Jays played slightly above .500 ball this season and did so with a number of 2009 draftees and other very young...

Off Day Bits.

I suppose there should be some righteous indignation that Jesse Carlson got the same 3 day suspension as Jorge Posada and yeah it is stupid that they both get the same. But then I'm not sad that Carlson gets 3 days, well actually 4 days off with this off day. Carlson was being used every day, he has been great but over work would hurt at some point and it isn't that bad that Cito has to learn to use...
