Yaaaarrrrrr! He's a Pirate now, Matey!

Justin Thomas ('06) couldn't sneak through waivers . The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that they have claimed left-handed pitcher Justin Thomas off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington. Thomas, 25, spent the entire 2009 season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he went 2-4 with six saves and a 4.48 ERA in 53 relief...

40-Man Roster Moves

Every so often I'll have a little debate with myself over what I want this blog to be. Do I just write about what I find interesting or relevant, or do I try to make this sort of a one-stop shop for everything any Mariners fan could care about? Anderson of Fangraphs believes that the Red Sox will be making a mistake if they sign Jason Bay to the four-year/$60MM contract that Jon Heyman reported (via Twitter) the club is willing to offer. Rangers officials met...

Roster Moves

The M’s made some procedural moves today. Bryan LaHair, Cesar Jimenez, Marwin Vega, and Randy Messenger were outrighted to Triple-A, getting them off the 40 man roster. The M’s attempted to outright Justin Thomas as well, but Pittsburgh claimed him on waivers, so he’s now property of the Pirates. No big news [...] -- This post came from: U.S.S. Mariner , and is copyright by the authors....

Turnover

You know how testy we get when people make comments about how awesome our could be in years? Remember the Nageotte/Blackley/Meche/Anderson rotations, Clement/Johjima/Johnson/Moore catching caches and Ichiro/Gutierrez/Saunders/Ackley outfields? We do our best to try and keep people grounded on these types of issues because, as it turns out, the future is incredibly hard to predict and a hell of a lot...

Rattler Alumni Report: MiLB Playoffs September 12, 2009

AAA: PCL: Tacoma loses 13-6 at Sacramento and is out of the PCL playoffs . Following a season marked by comebacks, the Tacoma Rainiers’ 2009 season came to an end despite one last rally on Saturday night. The Rainiers began winning must-win games on Aug. 21, when they began their improbable rally from 71/2 games back to win the division title and head into the Pacific Coast League playoffs for...
