As I see it there are four issues in play with Carlos Delgado, which makes it understandable that their torn over what direction to take. 1) They are going to be hard pressed to replace a healthy Delgado's production in the middle of the line-up. 2) At 37 y/o his first two seasons with the Mets were plagued with nagging injuries and last year he lost the entire season, can Carlos remain healthy enough...

Book: Whispered Lies by Sherrilyn Kenyon This book is ridiculous, but it's pretty much exactly what the back-cover blurb promises, so if you picked it up, you probably won't mind. Specific ridiculous points: Carlos Delgado works for the Bureau of America Defence. Yes, that's right, he works for BAD. If you can view a large image of the cover, you'll see it advertises itself as "A BAD AGENCY NOVEL"...

More photos » by Paul Connors - AP Pitchers like Jon Garland can be useful and cost-effective ways to upgrade a starting rotation. (AP Photo/Paul Connors) Browse more photos » We haven't seen any numbers come out of the Mets ' front office, but the consensus seems to be that they'll probably have a 2010 payroll comparable to that of the 2009 team, which is to say something in the $140-150...

Supposedly, the easiest position at which to find a hitter is first base. Alas, we are Giants fans. It's a little disingenuous to say there's a post-Will curse on the organization -- J.T. Snow did provide a couple of fantastic years to bookend the meh -- but there hasn't been a lot of offense from first base since Will Clark left. The Sabean-led Giants are the kind of organization that can look at...

Meet the Mets Bart Hubbuch writes that Wally Backman would be the logical heir to Jerry Manuel should the Mets dump their manager mid-season. Jason Fry is a little hesitant to take that risk . At this point, I can see the Mets going with Backman to appease the grission crowd, but it would be odd to jump over a candidate like Tim Teufel who has been a loyal, competent, and controversy-free manager in...

In a post to his blog for the New York Times, Ben Shpigel quotes ‘Captain Obvious,’ and says this off season the Mets hope to acquire another slugger and add a No. 2 starter behind Johan Santana. Shpigel sees 22–year-old 1B Ike Davis as being on a path similar David Wright, who was promoted to Double-A in 2003, then hit [...]

A 26 year old Peruvian man, Requelme Abanto, was found to have 1.5lb of metal in his stomach including (but not limited to) nails, rusted copper wire and coins. Surgeon Carlos Delgado, told reporters in the northern city of Cajamarca he had never seen anything like what he saw in last weeks operation. Carlos Beltran recently told reporters that he’d like to see Carlos Delgado return to the Mets in 2010. At a Harlem RBI event, Beltran said: “Before I came to New York, I was at (Delgado’s) house (in Puerto Rico). I was talking to him. He’s planning to play winter ball, in Puerto Rico. He wants to show [...]

When Carlos Delgado was the only serious injury of the season and they believed that everyone would be returning sometime during the season, Audrey Huff was a name regularly linked to the Mets. But Huff ended up being traded to the Tigers, the Mets need a short time 1B and while they'd prefer a right handed platoon partner, at the right price Huff could be a solid answer. The Tigers have economic issues...

Omar Minaya isn't ruling out bringing back Carlos Delgado, in Sept. it seemed like a fore gone conclusion that Delgado would not return. But the Mets need to keep all there options open, especially with their dire need for power and lets not forget how Pedro embarrassed them this year. Pedro looked washed up in 2008 as a Met, so Omar kept tabs on him over the winter but never seemed interested in bringing...

The New York Post's Bart Hubbuch has some good Mets info this afternoon, though it is unfortunately broken up into three tweets. Hubbuch learned that Mets GM Omar Minaya intends to watch Carlos Delgado in winter ball next month. Delgado could probably be re-signed cheaply after hip surgery limited the 37-year-old to 112 plate appearances this year. Cross Jeff Francoeur off the list of non-tender candidates...

As a start towards re-doing our prospect list I thought we'd take a look at the guys on our current list and see which ones improved their status with the team and which ones likely dropped back or right off the prospect list. Then we can start looking at who should be on the new list. I'll list the players in the spots they are at on our current list, which was put together about this time last year....
