Although the Cubs would "love" to pull off a deal for Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, they are unlikely to pull off such a deal as they lack the necessary room in payroll, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Cubbies have a combined $42.375MM committed to pitchers Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lilly, and Ryan Dempster. They would have a hard time finding a taker for Alfonso...

The Cubs are one of the teams the Blue Jays have contacted regarding pitcher Roy Halladay.— Carrie Muskat Obviously the Jays like the Cubs prospects (Starlin Castro for sure) or they wouldn’t have contacted the Cubs. However, before Cubs fans start salivating at the prospect of the former Cy Young winner in the rotation with Ted Lilly, Carlos Zambrano, and Ryan Dempster, there’s...

We love the look on Lou's face We don't expect a lot of post-season hardware to come the Cubs' way after an underachieving 2009 campaign, but one bit of silver lining is Carlos Zambrano taking home another Silver Slugger award . The award, given to the best hitting pitcher, is Z's third award and second in a row. His four homers, 11 RBIs, and .217 batting average were enough to win out. Congrats,...

Chicago Cubs starter takes it for 3rd time Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano, who has volunteered eagerly for designated-hitter and pinch-hitting duties in the past despite swinging-related stints on the disabled list, has been awarded his third Silver Slugger award for pitchers.

I was thinking recently of who the Braves will trade one of their starting pitchers to since they will be trading one of them this offseason, or so they say. It's obvious that Derek Lowe will be hard to deal due to his contract (although all the experts thought he was a good value last offseason), and the Braves would be crazy to trade either Jair Jurrgens or Tommy Hanson . So Javier Vazquez is the...

CHICAGO -- The Cubs are trying hard to dump the perennially malcontented Milton Bradley, as it isn't just manager Lou Piniella who didn't connect with him in his season here. Apparently, several key members of the team -- including Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano -- barely speak to Bradley.

It's not all about Milton Bradley. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune has some more Cubs rumors as the GM Meetings continue... Free agent Rich Harden wants to return to the Cubs. His agent is likely to meet with Cubs GM Jim Hendry soon. The Cubs are expected to sign lefty reliever John Grabow to a two-year deal with an option for 2012. All Milton, all the time... - Foxsports's rumor mongering robot Robothal is hearing talks about a 3-way trade of Milton Bradley to the Blue Jays, Lyle Overbay to the Mets and Luis Castillo to the Cubs. The three-team possibility, according to one source, has "some legs, but not much." The Jays are opposed to the deal, one source says — perhaps because new GM Alex Anthopolous does not...

Ted Lilly underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder yesterday. He won’t begin throwing until early March, which means he won’t be ready to go when the season begins. The Cubs are hopeful he’ll be ready to pitch sometime in April, but considering it was surgery on the shoulder I think that’s wishful thinking. Setbacks are common after surgery and Lilly isn’t likely...

I handled the McGwire story seriously here , so now let's have some fun with it: [ scene: Cardinals-Cubs game, summer 2010. Yadier Molina just struck out on four pitches and goes to talk to the hitting coach ] Molina : Hey Mac, Zambrano got me with the changeup last time. So I was looking changeup, and he busted me with the fastball. Did it look like I was cheating changeup? McGwire : I'm not here...

Carlos Zambrano ejected before Chicago Cubs win 5-2 This is quite an amusing video. Carlos Zambrano, a highly combustible and highly talented pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, got ejected from Wednesday's game for bumping the home plate umpire. That's when it got really fun. Zambrano, flabbergasted at the safe call at the plate, refused to be alone in his ejection, so he threw the umpire out of the game.
