Eddie B / Detroit Tigers Thoughts : Final Elias Rankings - American League Relief Pitchers … Kyle Farnsworth appears to be short of Type B Status. To add insult to injury, he ends up behind the likes of Gary Glover. Naturally, Casey Fossum was also well short of Type B. Among the free agents, who should the Tigers look at?

Oh, that Marcus Thames ! The Mighty Thames! Two home runs tonight! Hercules! Hercules! Hercules! Okay, so the Twins won the game., scoring 10 runs because Armando Galarraga walked six batters and had one of his worst performances of the season, while Freddy Dolsi was awful, and Casey Fossum wasn't very good, either. But... Country Strong! Bah. 21 more games left to endure.

It was a crazy day for the Tigers. It started with the trade of Pudge Rodriguez to the Yankees. It ended with Casey Fossum striking out Jamie Carroll in the bottom of the thirteenth for a 14-12 Tigers victory over the Indians. In between we saw a 5 1/2 hour baseball game that went something like this: the Tigers fell behind 8-1 after three innings to Cy Young candidate Cliff Lee. It looked

I think for the rest of his career, whenever Josh Hamilton steps to the plate in a game that I'm watching, he'll get the Bobby Abreu treatment.

The Tigers have two left-handed relievers, Casey Fossum and Bobby Seay, and neither has fared well against left-handed hitters. Lefties are batting .417 against Fossum (5-for-12) and .308 against Seay (16-for-52). Seay earned the victory Thursday after retiring two left-handed hitters in the 10th.

We all knew Joel Zumaya was returning to the Detroit Tigers beginning with tonight's game in San Diego. What we didn't know is who would be making room for him on the 25-man roster. Would it be Freddy Dolsi (even though he's been pitching too well to go)? Casey Fossum (even though he might be able to fill that fifth slot in the starting rotation)? Zach Miner (even though he's sort of the utility man...

The Tigers continue to pick up ground in the division with another win over the Dodgers this afternoon. It wasn’t pretty, but Eddie Bonine won in his major league debut. He gave up six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts (no walks, which is nice) in 5 1/3 innings. Casey Fossum gave up a [...]

Casey Fossum was having an excellent season with Toledo and now with the Tigers, he has an ERA of 135.00 after two relief appearances. Still, the four runs he gave up were icing on the cake after a tough start by Nate Robertson. The lefthander gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks [...]

Casey Fossum had been tearing up Triple A, so the Tigers decided to designate Francisco Cruceta to make room for him. Cruceta, 26, has only 26 big league innings under his belt. He's been knocked around, and lousy control hasn't helped. Cruceta missed all of spring training with visa issues. The Tigers are the fifth organization seduced by Cruceta's high ceiling (according to Baseball America).

In his rundown of notable minor leaguers in today's Detroit News , Lynn Henning wrote that left-hander Casey Fossum "easily could be pitching for the Tigers right now." Evidently, the team agreed with that assertion because Fossum has been called up from Triple-A Toledo. In 11 games (four starts) with the Mud Hens, Fossum has posted a 3-0 record with a 1.96 ERA, along with 48 strikeouts in 46 innings....
