Transaction Time in November

Baseball America has the list here . I see that the strange case of Shawn Estes has come to an end , at least with the Dodgers. Los Angeles Dodgers Released: LHP Shawn Estes Reinstated from inactive list: LHP Shawn Estes Some of these Mariners transactions are left over from last week. But, I will not edit. Only bolding former Rattlers on their list. Seattle Mariners Signed: RHP Rich Dorman (re-signed)...

Yaaaarrrrrr! He's a Pirate now, Matey!

Justin Thomas ('06) couldn't sneak through waivers . The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that they have claimed left-handed pitcher Justin Thomas off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington. Thomas, 25, spent the entire 2009 season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he went 2-4 with six saves and a 4.48 ERA in 53 relief...

40-Man Roster Moves

Every so often I'll have a little debate with myself over what I want this blog to be. Do I just write about what I find interesting or relevant, or do I try to make this sort of a one-stop shop for everything any Mariners fan could care about? In other words, where do I set the threshold of significance above which I write, but below which I ignore? I started thinking about this again most recently...

Odds & Ends: Bay, Rangers, Mariners

As Game Two rolls along...well, maybe not 'rolls.' Chugs? Drags? Anyway, as Game Two continues, here are a few newsbits from everywhere but Yankee Stadium in the MLB universe... R.J. Anderson of Fangraphs believes that the Red Sox will be making a mistake if they sign Jason Bay to the four-year/$60MM contract that Jon Heyman reported (via Twitter) the club is willing to offer. Rangers officials met...

Roster Moves

The M’s made some procedural moves today. Bryan LaHair, Cesar Jimenez, Marwin Vega, and Randy Messenger were outrighted to Triple-A, getting them off the 40 man roster. The M’s attempted to outright Justin Thomas as well, but Pittsburgh claimed him on waivers, so he’s now property of the Pirates. No big news [...] -- This post came from: U.S.S. Mariner , and is copyright by the authors....

Turnover

You know how testy we get when people make comments about how awesome our could be in years? Remember the Nageotte/Blackley/Meche/Anderson rotations, Clement/Johjima/Johnson/Moore catching caches and Ichiro/Gutierrez/Saunders/Ackley outfields? We do our best to try and keep people grounded on these types of issues because, as it turns out, the future is incredibly hard to predict and a hell of a lot...

Guillermo Quiroz gets the call from AA, Kenji Johjima to DL for Mariners

The headline says it all. The Mariners have opted to call up journeyman minor leaguer Guillermo Quiroz, a onetime top prospect with Toronto, from Class AA to fill the void left by Kenji Johjima's injury. Johjima goes to the 15-day DL and pitcher Cesar Jimenez is transferred to the 60-day DL.

Pitching Staff Shuffle

This was mentioned in the last post, but I figured it could use its own post. The Mariners got rid of all but four lefties today when they returned Jose Lugo, DL’d Cesar Jimenez and sent down Garrett Olsen. That leaves Erik Bedard, Jarrod Washburn, Ryan Rowland-Smith and Tyler Johnson. Bedard is a lock as the [...]

LHRP Cesar Jimenez was placed on the 15-day DL. CIF Mike Morse cleared waivers and was sent to AAA Tacoma. LHRP Jose Lugo was returned to the [...]
