The Cult of Doyle continues ... Many people noted yesterday that the Phillies DFA’d Chris Snelling’s when they brought Jayson Werth off the DL. Which is Greg-Norton-style ungrateful, given that he’d been hitting like crazy. In, uh, his 4 at-bats. Snelling’s 27 now, his career delayed and savaged by injuries, and in the last year he’s been signed, traded, traded, optioned, claimed, released and probably...

The Phils have an off day, so we have an extra day savor the sweep of the Braves. Enjoy two of my favorite plays from the weekend. -------------------------- Chris Snelling Snelling has two hits this year separated by 2 months - a 9th inning homer in a 4-3 win over the Astros and a 10th inning double in a 4-3 win over the Braves. Could Snelling help the Phils on a more consistant basis? I don't know,...

The Phillies have made Chris Snelling available so they could activated Jayson Werth. Just a few years ago Snelling was a top prospect in the Mainers organization and compared to none other then Len Dykstra. The 26 y/o left handed outfielder has struggled to stay healthy, he is a lifetime .240 hitter but he still has quite an up side. If their not satisfied with their own AAAA outfielders, they could...

Kyle Kendrick (5-2, 5.00 ERA) and Jo-Jo Reyes (2-3, 4.78) take the mound tonight in the second of three between the Phillies and Braves. Outfielder Jayson Werth returns from the 15-day disabled list and is in the starting lineup. To make room for Werth, outfielder Chris Snelling has been outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Inquirer's Todd Zolecki expects Snelling to accept the assignment so he...

Ken Griffey Jr. tries to collect home run number 600 when the Cincinnati Reds visit CBP for a long series with the Phillies. Meanwhile, the Phils have made a roster move, and a pitcher suffers another setback. Earlier today, the Phils activated outfielder Chris Snelling from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for Snelling on the roster, T.J. Bohn, who made a great catch in the ninth inning of yesterday’s...

The roster revolving door continues. The unsurprising move is Chris Snelling heading to the DL. Snelling’s entire career history is that he’s a good player when he’s healthy, but he’s very rarely healthy. Unfortunate but not unexpected. As a result TJ Bohn gets to sit on the bench and maybe get a couple pinch hitting [...]

They didn’t want to do it. They did everything they could to avoid it. However, this afternoon, the Phillies placed shortstop Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list. The team also placed outfielder Chris Snelling on the disabled list along with Rollins, a move retroactive to April 17th. However, since Rollins pinch-hit in yesterday’s game [...]

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins sprained his ankle April 8, but was used just yesterday as a pinch hitter. Chris Snelling has also been placed on the DL. As for their replacements, you don't even want to know. Beerleaguer: Nice feather in the cap for the training staff, front office or whomever is responsible for advising on this blunder. To make matters worse, the Phils have replaced Rollins with Double-A...

AS CHRIS SNELLING grabbed his helmet and bat for the Phillies' turn in the bottom of the ninth last night, he turned to Charlie Manuel and asked whether he was supposed to take the first pitch from Astros righthander Jose Valverde for a strike.

Wow. What a win the Phillies had on Tuesday night. Poor Shawn Chacon was brilliant through 8 innings only to have Jose Valverde lose the game for the Astros in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Snelling led off the ninth with a first pitch homer, and after Chase Utley got hit for the 438th time [...]
