Claudio Vargas has cleared waivers and will report back to AAA New Orleans. Vargas was 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA while with the Mets. I’m glad we didn’t lose Claudio, to be honest I think he should still be here and making the start tomorrow, not Tony Armas.

SNY post game show reported that the Mets had DFA Claudio Vargas for assignment and recalled Carlos Muniz. Vargas struggled tonight in the long man role and gave up four runs raising his ERA to 4.62. Following tonight’s game, Willie Randolph announced that Carlos Muniz will be demoted to Triple-A New Orleans to make room for the return of Pedro Martinez. Meanwhile, according to Randolph, Mike Pelfrey will remain in the starting rotation, while Claudio Vargas will shift to the bullpen.

Mike Peflrey pitched well enough to earn himself another start, meaning that it's more then likely that Claudio Vargas will become the long-man when Pedro is activated.
