Bobby Bowden's final game will take place in a packed house. The Gator Bowl said Monday that it sold every ticket for the New Year's Day game in record time, less than two hours. The bowl said all 77,474 tickets have been sold, counting an allotment of more than 13,000 going to each school. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Bobby Bowden will coach his final game at Florida State in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. Bowl officials said Sunday that Florida State will play 18th-ranked West Virginia, the school Bowden left in 1976 to come to Florida State. The Seminoles began their 28-year streak of bowl games in 1982 when they defeated the Mountaineers 32-12 at the Gator Bowl. Under normal circumstances,...

SEC and ACC Bowls are getting progressively more nuts and unpredictable by the minute. Here's the latest: LSU to the Capital One - This is still pretty much a go. Ole Miss to Cotton - Multiple reports including the Dallas Morning News are saying that Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma State is pretty much a done deal for the Cotton Bowl. Auburn to Outback Bowl - The Outback Bowl may officially announce this afternoon...

`Christian Science Monitor' `Dan Murphy' A poll released last Friday found a sharp divide between majority Muslim states and other nations on the limits of free speech. When it comes to criticizing religion, Muslim states favor allowing legal sanctions on such “hate speech.” The poll, conducted by World Public Opinion.org, comes as the UN General Assembly prepares [...]

One of our more frequent complaints around here about the Everyday Rewards scheme offered by Woolworths is that it doesn’t include liquor chain Dan Murphy’s, even though Woolworths owns it. That’s about to change, albeit only for the month of December and only for wine. (more…)

Glen Ridge artist Lori Loebelsohn, who designed this year's event logo , was running around Glen Ridge with a camera during the Ashenfelter 8K. Yesterday's race had a great turnout - over 2,000 runners, she says. The annual run, organized by Dan Murphy, raises beaucoup bucks for the Glen Ridge Educational fund. Last year, the race brought in over $25,000! Lori writes: I didn't run, but it was fun...

This is another cool climate ripper. The Austins Geelong Shiraz 2005 has had a presence here in Brunswick now for the past six months and as long as Uncle Dan’s keep stocking it, will feature for some time yet. In the glass this wine has a very deep garnet colour with no real distinction in the hue. The nose throws off plenty of complexity with licorice and rum raisin being predominant. The palate...

‘ Lucky is he who has been able to understand the causes of things .’ Virgil 70-19BC. Lucky indeed are the people who are able to blend wonderful wines. The Bordelaise have been doing it for quite some time, with their wines constructed based on geography; left bank based on Cabernet Sauvignon with flavours dominated by blackcurrant and the right bank based on Merlot with a more fruitcakey...

I made a case for bringing in Garrett Atkins as the platoon partner for Dan Murphy. The biggest problem most people had was that if the Mets traded for Atkins, they would have to give the Rockies something and then pay him around 7MM through arbitration. After the year Atkins had many weren't willing to give him that much money and it appears the Rockies can't find anyone to deal with. If Colorado...

The regular readers of this blog are well aware of my constant avoision of anything starting with Shiraz and ending with Barossa on the label. Yes, I am a lush when it comes to Pinot Noir, aren’t we all? And then there is Champagne; am I not human, do I not bleed when cut? It is true that I have been called a lot of things over the journey, but Shylock is not one of them. It was a conversation...

Last week I recommended Garrett Atkins for a spot on our team , a possible upgrade over Fernando Tatis as the back-up corner infielder who might end up beating out Dan Murphy at 1B. Most of the people I spoke to about the idea either liked it or weren't against but were leery of his cost. That appears to be the same issue the Rockies are running into, apparently Atkins is to expensive going into arbitration...
