Danny Richar and Kevin Barker elected free agency after being outrighted by the Reds, according to C. Trent Rosecrans (via Twitter). The Reds also outrighted pitcher Justin Lehr, but signed him for 2010. Richar, 26, hit .290/.330/.438 in 181 Triple A plate appearances this year. The second baseman had labrum surgery in July. He came to the Reds from the White Sox last July with Nick Masset in the Ken...

Travis Wood (Photo by BubbaFan) View full size photo uploaded October 22, 2009 When the season ended, the Reds had a full 40-man roster plus 4 players on the 60-day DL who did not count toward the 40-man roster. In the next couple of weeks those 4 players ( Mike Lincoln , Edinson Volquez , Wilkin Castillo, and Danny Richar ) will lose their 60-day status and will have to be moved back to the 40-man...

Well, with not much else to consider in this rapidly deteriorating season, what about September callups? Some of the guys the Reds might want to call up, like Drew Stubbs, are not on the 40-man roster, but there are ways to deal with that. Guys currently on the 40-man but in the minors are Bill Bray, Sam Lecure, Matt Maloney, Ramon Ramirez, and Daryl Thompson among the pitchers: plus players Yonder...

John Fay lists his top trade candidates in his blog, and I think it's a good list: 1. Arthur Rhodes, 2. David Weathers, 3. Bronson Arroyo, 4. Aaron Harang, 5. Francisco Cordero, 6. Jerry Hairston. I think it's a pretty good list, though I would move Hairston up to #4 on it. With the money owed Cordero, I think he'd be a tough trade, and is therefore less likely to go. But, a lot of teams are seeking...

The word on the 40-man roster spot is in: Wilkin Castillo was transferred to the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list, effectively making a merry-go-round with Edwin Encarnacion going from the 60-day to the active roster, and Danny Richar from the roster to the 15-day DL. Players on the 60-day disabled list do not count against the 40-man roster limit of players the major league team can...

The holiday weekend begins with a transaction. Danny Richar has been placed on the 15-day DL, and Edwin Encarnacion has been reinstated to the active roster. Welcome back, Edwin! Well, we can’t welcome EE back to the lineup, because Jerry Hairston is starting at third. Of course. Full lineup below the fold. It is bizarre, as [...]
