Brian Duensing (5-1, 3.33) vs. Justin Verlander (17-9, 3.41), 7:05 p.m. EST After the Twins won the first game of today's doubleheader, first place in the AL Central is truly on the line tonight. Another Minnesota win would tie them with the Tigers atop the division. Brian Duensing hasn't lost in his past seven starts, winning five of them. That includes last week, when he gave up four runs (three...

For those unfamiliar, yours truly is not just Twinkie Town's Friday Daddy, but also does some scrappy, Punto-esque work at the Star-Tribune's RandBall sports blog, where I'm tasked with hunting down sports figures from Minnesota's past to see where they are now. My most recent quarry was Jamie Quirk, who 25 years ago this Sunday homered in his only career at-bat for the Cleveland Indians , dashing...

Justin Verlander (16-9, 3.44) vs. Carlos Carrasco (0-2, 9.64), 7:05 p.m. EST The Tigers have a series win in hand, but have a chance to get one more game tonight. (I'm always hesistant to use the "s" word, which rhymes with "weep," for fear of a jinx.) With the Twins off tonight, Detroit could add a half-game to their lead in the AL Central. Carlos Carrasco 's major league debut...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Don Kelly had the worst feeling after the Tigers' worst loss of the year Saturday. He's the one who lost the fly ball in the Metrodome lights and ceiling -- the ball that became the Twins' turnaround hit in their comeback win against Justin Verlander.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Metrodome's tricky, graying roof got another chance to torment the visiting team by gobbling up a routine fly ball. Don Kelly and the Detroit Tigers were the latest victims of the deception, and the Minnesota Twins cut their AL Central lead to two games. Orlando Cabrera's only-in-the-dome double fueled the eighth-inning rally by the surging Twins, and Jason Kubel's two-run single...

A Metrodome double off the bat of Orlando Cabrera set the stage for Minnesota to win its season-high sixth consecutive game, pulling the Twins to within two games of the first place Detroit Tigers. Trailing 2-1 with one out in bottom of the eighth with Cy Young contender Justin Verlander on the mound, the Twins needed a spark. Welcome to the Metrodome. Visiting outfielders have always had problems...

Zack Greinke (13-8, 2.19) vs. Edwin Jackson (12-6, 3.22), 1:05 p.m. EST I'm usually a fan of day games (especially when skipping out on work or school during the week to catch a ballgame), but this time around, I wish we had a little more time to reflect on last night. Personally, I feel like I'm trying to catch up. But the games go on, the schedule doesn't stop. And so we must follow. Zack Greinke...

As already mentioned in the comments of our last post, (and reported by Jason Beck ), Don Kelly has been added to the Tigers ' roster. He was called up from Triple-A Toledo along with Armando Galarraga , who's recovered from his elbow inflammation and will start tonight for Jarrod Washburn . Kelly hit 250/.308/.354 in 19 games with the Tigers through most of June and early July. With the Mud Hens,...

The Tigers purchased the contract of Don Kelly. We’ll see if this will prompt Jim Leyland to give Brandon Inge some rest. Jeff Larish was added to the 60 day DL to free up the spot on the 40 man roster.
