Ever since signing out of the Dominican Republic as a 17-year-old in 2005, fans anxiously awaited the debut of young man touted as the next Mets superstar. Thud. That was the sound of “F-Mart” falling flat in his first shot at the big leagues. However, it doesn’t mean Fernando will be a bust — quite the contrary. His [...]

The 2009 Opening Day payroll was approximately 100 million dollars, and given all the recent divorce news, I find it hard to believe that number would be increased going into 2010. Therefore, my plan is based on a operating budget of about 100 million dollars with perhaps a bit of flexibility. Just to clarify, this is what I would do if I were the GM. Projected 2010 Payroll-100 Million Dollars As I...

The incomparable Marty Noble answers many of the fan inquiries with his usual mixture of information and wit. Among other ideas, he considers: Just what would it take, hypothetically, to bring Adrian Gonzalez to Queens? Noble believes a package of John Maine, Fernando Martinez and Ike Davis "and perhaps more would be one to consider seriously." Noble likes Joel Pineiro more than Jason Marquis,...

It sounds like Detroit could be very active this off-season in the trade market as they attempt to shed salary. One of the names being floated is Curtis Granderson but I have not heard the Mets linked to Granderson at all. The 28 y/o left handed hitting center fielder would be an incredible up grade defensively in left field and has the power for Citi field. He has lead the AL in triples two separate...

Last week I recommended Garrett Atkins for a spot on our team , a possible upgrade over Fernando Tatis as the back-up corner infielder who might end up beating out Dan Murphy at 1B. Most of the people I spoke to about the idea either liked it or weren't against but were leery of his cost. That appears to be the same issue the Rockies are running into, apparently Atkins is to expensive going into arbitration...

Yesterday, Metsblog reader “therambler” asked: “I’d be curious to know if you think an offer of Mike Pelfrey, Ike Davis, Reese Havens, and Fernando Martinez would be enough (or be too much) to get Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres? I think that it is a slightly better package than what the Red Sox would offer (probably [...]

As you undoubtedly saw in the fanshots or somewhere else yesterday, Baseball America released its top 10 prospects list for the Mets , with Adam Rubin reprising as the author of the write-up and subsequent chat. Rubin's article didn't provide much insight into the ranking, but the chat cleared a few things up. Here are the things I found most interesting about the list with relevant quotes: Fernando...
