SPOTTED: Jay-Z with Derek Jeter At Yankees Parade

Hip hop icon Jay-Z joined thousands of fans to celebrate the New York Yankees victory in the 2009 World Series. The Roc-A-Fella rapper joined famed Bronx bomber Derek Jeter and other team members on a float during a ticker-tape parade along Broadway commemorating the Major League Baseball team's 27th World Series championship on Nov. 6. Jay-Z later performed his current hit single 'Empire State of...

Up from the bottom

At one point last night, I could help but laugh when he looked into one of the far corners of the Yankees clubhouse and saw Francisco Cervelli priming a champagne bottle for an attack on an unsuspecting teammate. Six months earlier, Cervelli was a Double-A catcher hitting .190. Last night he was a World Series winning plotting celebration [...] Click on the headline for the rest of this blog post ...

Almost the Only Orderly Thing in a Very Unorderly World

And then there were a series of tableaux, some familiar – Jeter’s raised arms and yell, Rivera’s grin, Posada’s near-skip towards the mound – and some new: Mark Teixeira’s fiercely goofy expression as he jumped up and down, Nick Swisher tearing wide-eyed and open-mouthed towards the infield, Francisco Cervelli hopping around like a caffeinated bunny, Joe Girardi’s...

Melky May Have Torn His Hamstring

According to Sam Borden , Melky Cabrera may have suffered a full left hamstring tear last night and could be done for the remainder of the World Series. Brian Cashman told him that the Yankees doctors will evaluate Melky in the next few hours If he is in fact done for the series, "the Yankees are allowed to petition for a roster change." Cashman also said that the player that would replace...

The Official 2009 World Series Yankees Roster

The World Series rosters are in. The Yankees dropped their 3rd catcher, Francisco Cervelli and pinch runner OF Freddy Guzman from the World Series roster. Instead, they added Brian Bruney and Eric Hinske. These moves had to be made, and it all looks good now. Pitching: 91 Alfredo Aceves RHP, 99 Brian Bruney RHP, 34 A.J. Burnett RHP, [...]

Yankees add Hinske, Bruney to roster

Reporting to you from Austin, Texas, the Yankees have made two roster switches (see headline). Eric Hinske and Brian Bruney will replace Freddy Guzman and Francisco Cervelli on the roster. I’m assuming the reasons behind the changes are that Hinske’s pop is more valuable than Guzman’s speed, and an extra reliever just to be cautious. I agree with both moves. However, don’t expect...

Bruney In, Cervelli Out

Earlier today the Yankees announced that they would be adding Brian Bruney to the WS roster and dropping third catcher Francisco Cervelli. I like having that extra arm in the pen. Hopefully Bruney can pick up where he left off towards the end of the regular season.

Some World Series Roster Changes

The Yankees have altered their roster just a touch from what they had in the ALCS, dropping Freddy Guzman and Francisco Cervelli in favor of Brian Bruney and Eric Hinske. With the subtraction of Cervelli one might wonder if Joe Girardi will sti...

Yankees add Bruney, Hinske to roster for Series

The Yankees have made two roster changes for the World Series, adding right-handed reliever Brian Bruney and utilityman Eric Hinske. Pinch-runner Freddy Guzman and catcher Francisco Cervelli were dropped Wednesday. Bruney was 5-0 with a 3.92 ERA in 44 regular-season appearances. He was not active for the first two rounds of the playoffs and has not pitched in a game since Oct. 2.

Bruney, Hinske added; Guzman, Cervelli off

The Yankees just released their World Series roster and RHP Brian Bruney has been added, along with pinch-hitter Eric Hinske. Pinch-runner Freddy Guzman and third catcher Francisco Cervelli were removed. Dropping Cervelli indicates the Yankees may be scrapping the A.J. Burnett/Jose Molina pairing, and sticking with Jorge Posada behind the plate in every game. Adding Hinske [...] Click on the headline...

Hinske, Bruney on Yankees roster; Guzman, Cervelli off (Joel Sherman/New York Post)

Joel Sherman / New York Post : Hinske, Bruney on Yankees roster; Guzman, Cervelli off — Emphasizing extra pitching and a power bat to pinch-hit, the Yankees will submit a World Series roster that will add Brian Bruney and Eric Hinske and remove Francisco Cervelli and Freddy Guzman, The Post has learned.

Yanks add Hinske and Bruney

According to the NY Post, the Yankees have added Brian Bruney and Eric Hinske to their World Series roster. They’ll replace Francisco Cervelli and Freddy Guzman. I think most would agree that these additions are good moves. Hinske is a solid bench bat that can help out at Citizen’s Bank Park and, although you never [...]

Joe Girardi: Overmanager of the year?

It's all your fault, Joe. The Yankees should have won today's ALCS game, and they would have had a great chance at doing so, if Joe Girardi had left well enough alone. I think Girardi has done a terrific job overall this year, but his relentless overmanaging of the bullpen cost the Yankees the game today. Why he would pull David Robertson, who has been nothing but money in the postseason this year,...

Damon Works On His Hitting

After hitting an embarrassing .083 (1-for-12) in the ALDS, Johnny Damon was at Yankee Stadium today and hit in a simulated game . Along with Damon, Eric Hinske, Jerry Hairston Jr., Brett Gardner, and Francisco Cervelli also took part in the simulated game. Five pitchers threw in a simulated game in an effort to stay sharp during the break between the first round and ALCS. Chad Gaudin threw 50 pitches,...
